I'm curious, do you guys hoard followers or delete them?
I actually go through my follower list every day, so I delete inactive farms. I'm trying to keep my followers under 50 because I becomes kinda tedious, lol. If I wouldn't have deleted people I would have over 400 followers! Too many to go through every day.
I have to delete once they reach 100. If I don't I lose my most faithful followers who have been with me from the beginning. Once it reaches 100, the first followers drop from the list.
I changed my farm name asking people to add me to Game Center, much easier that way, as the followers list is a pain in the bum to scroll through.
I finally took advantage of the delete follower feature the other day and trimmed my followers down in half (33 now). I used to love seeing my followers count go up...somewhat of an ego booster but since I rarely advertise in the DD nowadays and don't help random farms in the paper, my followers count became stagnant. Many of them were inactive farms so it was time to cut bait. My followers list is more manageable now and it's easier to access active followers.
I'm an evil deleter :o I have hardly ever advertised in the paper, so have only had about 6 or 7 followers in the whole time I've played. Most of these people would follow me and then pop in and raid my store every time I filled it, and they never helped me out with anything, even if I gave up my last sugar or something for them - so, off with their heads lol.
I do still have one follower, who has been there for quite a while. This person is very helpful and I enjoy being able to help them back so I definitely do not want to delete them. I only wish I could add them on GC.
I have only ever deleted one follower. I'm considering deleting some more, as I have 25 right now, but only about 10 of them are active so I help them. I do have a couple out of those active ones that raid my shop, but never really help, until the other day one of them finally did help my boat. I have one that likes to buy my default price silo stuff and sell it full price on his shop lol. But I don't care about that.
I delete when I'm certain the farm is inactive, just to keep scrolling to a minimum. Same with my friends list, although I'm really slow to delete from there. I have one friend who used to be a daily player, then one day in November, she suddenly dropped off Hay Day. Don't have the heart to delete her, I keep hoping she'll return.
Back in the fall I did delete one friend b/c I got sick & tired of reading her "play nice" messages. (Share! Take one! Don't be greedy! Etc etc) Too high maintenance, I hated worrying if I was going to offend.
Beyond that, the more the merrier.
I think I'll wait before I delete any followers.

I don't really do either. I don't advertise in the DD very often so I really don't get many new ones. I currently have 8 who are all really great followers.
I recently deleted a follower, he came back so I deleted him again, and again a third time because he didn't get the message. Can't wait until I drop off his Last Helper list. His crime? He raided every single thing from my RSS and didn't revive my bushes that were right there by my RSS, so I popped over to his farm to see what he was up to, and he was putting all the BEMS, SEMS and LEMS that he had raided from me into his own RSS. Normally I don't mind one person taking everything, if I think they truly need it to upgrade, and I might even have forgiven him for not reviving my buses, but putting everything immediately on sale In his own RSS really seemed too much, as I know some of my friends are using my goods to upgrade and really need them. I don't like people who only take, take, take and never give. Most of my friends and followers do return favours, and it's been especially rewarding to see a farmer I adopted at level 7 finally get to the stage where they can do more than just revive plants.
I too am reluctant to delete non-players in the hope they will return. In the meantime, they are convenient locations for hunting toolboxes.
I wasn't aware we can write messages to our neighbors that help us out. Are you talking about the gift cards and notes that Alfred the mailman sends? Aren't they already written messages?Quote:

She probably has changed the name of her farm to say the different messages, as there is no in game chat/message system between farms, right now. Hopefully supercell will add a message board to the game sometime. That would be great!Quote:

BonRae, Oooooh! I know what you mean about the "play nice" messages. At first I tried to be nice, but then it got really tedious and felt like I was walking on eggshells all the time ("Is she going to be upset if I take three out of the 20 items?") so I cut them loose. Right now, most of my friends allow me to raid their stores, but I'm very, very good about helping their boats! I have no problem giving up my last few items to help one of my good neighbours who allows me to raid their store, lol. I figure if I get on their nerves with raiding, they will cut ME loose, lol.
GladeMaid, don't you love seeing a follower start at level 8 or 9 and they are with you until level 40 and beyond? I have one guy who has been with me forever now, lol. It's like watching your kids grow up! Lol.
Country7Girl, like Muggaloo said, this person probably just changed their farm name. That's how most of us communicate throughout the game. It sucks because of the character limit. I really wish they would instate a newboard or something where you could update your neighbours ("I'm on vacation! Be back soon!" "RSS will be empty for a few days, I am restocking!" "Thank you XYZ!" "Cast off sugar boats people!").
i only have 1 follower and i'm thrilled that someone liked my farm enough to follow it, so i won't be deleting them... funny enough, i was deleted from a farm that i've been following since i started playing and i'm somewhat relieved due to the be nice/don't be greedy/walking on eggshells aura that surrounded that farm...
Oh, gotcha. I've seen some of those going through my neighbors' shops. I just ignore it. Farmers are gonna do what they wanna do when visiting RSS and buying. I could care less about anyone raiding my shop. I like the moola. Ka-Ching!!! The ones I chuckle at are the farm names pleading needing this or that. My reaction, "I'm like um yeah sorry I can't help you without knowing your GC: ID and the lack of being able to relay msgs." I agree Muggaloo, a message board would be a nice featureQuote:

I don't delete anyone. I consider it a compliment that they want to follow me since the number of Farms Anyone can follow in the traditional way is so limited. I help every time I can and I don't mind if they raid my RSS. It's out of my barn it's out of my my mind :)
I imagine it is. I have a couple of followers who have been with me right from the beginning, and someone I have followed right from the beginning and i have a really great symbiotic relationship with them. I feel really devoted to them because we have struggled together all the way. I also have others who have started following me along the way and I always help them where I can, as I feel privileged that they have chosen to follow me. My baby bird farmer I chose to follow because s/he was brand new and I liked their farm name. They then followed me, so I was able to open that spot on my friend bar, but I made sure they knew I was still with them, buying their goods when no one else did and filling their boat crates. Watching their farm grow has been brilliant; even though I have no idea who or where they are, I have taken a small amount of vicarious pride in each new level achieved and each new piece of equipment purchased. I was so proud the first time they filled one of my crates, I can't begin to find the words. HD just gives so much pleasure to me, I love it!Quote:

I know what you mean about seeing them fill one of your crates for the first time! I got excited too when I saw it. I occasionally delete a follower.
Basically, I like having followers, as I assume they like the look of my farm or of my shop. I try to keep my shop well stocked with all sorts of crops at a good price and I check on them several times a day to help with their boats. Some of my followers I like more than others, though. Some have beautiful farms. Others can communicate in some way, so I can supply them with more items for their boat. Some help and fill my crates. One even sold me BEMs :D.
But it's getting hard checking on them when the list grows too big. So I deleted some farms who haven't shown life signs for several months or if I didn't take to them or if they'd only come to raid and not bothered even watering my trees.
Buying things in my shop is basically ok. Buying everything in sight which might come useful one day makes perfect sense. Buying cheap items and reselling them at a profit is a good idea for a farmer at a lower level who needs money for lobsters to come, so I sell SEMs or LEMs at default price to a follower who does that (and check his shop for BEMs, of course :D).
But sometimes I'm talking to some particular neighbour and trying to give her some choice items, and then I'm not too pleased if those got taken by somebody else. So, if one of my followers gets into the habit of coming and raiding whenever he sees me getting into smalltalk mode with somebody else, he risks getting deleted.

I've only got 2! To be honest I'd barely noticed the Followers tab. We can't follow very many people can we? So I'm quite surprised there are people with loads and loads. Do you tend to have well-stocked shops?
The shop is one factor, but the helping is probably even more important. Advertising gives people an opportunity to make contact, water a tree on your farm and see how you behave in the next days. Or you may have bought something really nice in their shop, which you found through their advertisement, and in reaction filled a difficult crate for them. The way you help them might give them the impression you might be a nice friend to follow. If this proves to be true, they stay. Otherwise they leave and follow somebody else.

You can follow 5. When I started out, I always followed all 5, either they were higher levels or sold cheap products. From time to time I will stop following one but always pick up another to follow. I have followed the current 5 for some time now and unlikely I will now change, I've become attached to them.Quote:

They sure do, yesterday every boat wanted cakes, even had one boat that was all cakes 3 different kinds, 4 crates each. You can't keep up with that as the cake machine is slow. Needless to say, I did a lot of cake shopping to get my supply back up. Even the lovely berry cakes that are always in a neighbors RSS or in the DD were like gold to me yesterday. I'm pretty sure I may have been cake greedy in a few neighbors shops as you can't always remember if you shopped their RSS or if they have a new supply in their RSS.Quote:

I follow 2 players that are higher levels, started following them awhile back and followed them because they have a nice variety in their RSS and keep it stocked several times a day. See that's all I sell -rare stuff. I don't often sell cheap common products unless I really need to get rid - mostly when my shop is full it's full of premium products at max price. X
i hoard all the followers i help them but i dont look at them
I have kept my followers that I pick up from DD ads. I don't use Facebook because the pictures that show up in the DD just cause headaches for me. So my followers are my neighbors. I also take it as a compliment that they keep following me because either like my farm or my RSS. I look through their stalls multiple times a day to buy items that they obviously want sold. I help them out with boats. I don't mind if these followers buy everything in my stall.
What I do get disappointed by is if someone I have helped suddenly takes everything in my stalls when I had hoped to leave expansion materials for my usual followers to pick up. I have to remind myself to change my paradigm and think of them as potential followers. ;)
I'm glad I joined this forum after many months of lurking. I'm on level 81, and have about 80 followers. I had no idea they start to fall off after 100.
I have a question - a few months ago I started following a very active player, even higher level than me, who was constantly updating his farm name with messages [ 'I'm away', 'I'm back', 'I'm now selling', 'have a great weekend', etc], I really enjoyed it, it was my favorite farm by far. also posting great items for sale constantly, and participating in global events in epic quantities. Recently, he dissapeared off my friends list - i thought why?! But could it be so many people follow him that I naturally dropped off? I'm still waiting for a global event to find him again in 'most helpful' list. Any clues??
