[Discussion] Xbow set to Air/Ground VS. Ground

What do you use?

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

A xbow set to to ground only will have a whooping range of 14 tiles!
Air/Ground xbows will still have a nice range of 11 tiles, but with an ability to attack air targets.

I personally set my xbows to ground only. That is because I am farming in the gold leagues where balloonion/mass dragon raids are a lot rarer than in say crystal III. However, I would assume that xbows should be pointed up when you are trophy pushing. As a user of balloonions, I look for targets with their xbow set to ground only.

What are your thoughts?

I thought about this too one day and came to a final thought, since I am usually Gold-Crystal there are many players attacking with air units. So first they intend to wipe out the air defenses then put in their Air units, so thinking about it it's better having them set to Ground & Air is actually quite useful, although the range is shorter that way....

Ground when all my air defenses are up, otherwise Air+ground, I figured that the probability of people using hogs and giants over balloons or drags was far more likely, at least when farming in gold leagues I guess. xbows are great for putting pressure on ground unit tank dependent raids.

Well I am only Townhall 8 so I don't have x-bows but when I get them I will put them Air and ground... I think its best so it can get all troops not just one type of unit. :)

Xbows in my opinion, should always be set to air/ground. If you have them set down due to farming, I assume you are expecting mainly tier 1 attacks such as barbs, archers etc. The defence AI is so terrible they will all continue to shoot the same troops as the xbow, thus defeating the purpose of the range. Also, I see more dragon attacks while farming in silver/gold.

For me it differs if I'm farming or not. When I farm I set them all on ground, due to the long range attacks. I farm in the 1200-1400 range, so must attacks are all tier 1 troops. When I go on my trophy push I set 2 to ground, and one of them set to both.

For me it's air and ground, just feels like more players would skip a town with them set in this way.

As a brand-new TH9, with my x-bows finishing in a couple of days, this is a very interesting decision. My thoughts are I will keep them up until I have built my fourth AD to lvl 6, and then I will keep it on ground only. What do you guys reckon?

Air and ground is the to go for farming. A wide radius to shoot down archers picking off buildings isn't necessary in my opinion.

Depends on which one you hate more, Miniballs or Hogs.

I'm currently down 3 splashes: 2 wizzy towers + 1 mortar - and that magical number will turn into 4 tonight.

At Crystal II and above I've noticed that if X-Bows are down I instantly get attacked by Balloons/Minions.

Hence I keep them pointing to the sky. It's like a Batman calling beacon, but for Hogs :D

My base is setup to deal with Hogs so this seems to work.

3 tiles difference isn't much, and there are other defences that can do ground work, much more defenses can do ground work than air work. Or effective air work.

Yeah I agree.

Players are searching for that base with ground only.

I keep both up. If I'm being attacked with barbs/archers, they aren't going to get very far so the extra range just means I'm wasting elixir, since I would repel the attack without xbows (not guaranteed, I suppose, but with the way most people deploy troops, I'm not worried about tier one attacks). Actually, the most annoying thing I'm attacked with is giants/healers, and I try to keep xbows up in hopes that they will take down the healer, but they always focus on the giants. Stupid xbows.

I set them to ground as I barely get attacked from mass air troops.

Hmm.... it can't be air only. It can be Ground Only or Air+Ground.

I go for ground because im getting hogged a lot lately.

You would be surprised at how important those three tiles are.

At the moment mine are set on Air because I have 2 Air Defences upgrading but usually on Ground when in Gold league with all Air Defences up, always on Air when I'm Farming from Crystal 3 to Master 3, probably would put on Ground above 2800 when Balloonions are much rarer (don't know have only been to about 2750)

Depends on your base design, if the design pushes Air Defense out a bit further then you would like; point them up.

If they are very central, drop 'em down!

I keep mine on air and ground. There's pros and cons to both. I just don't want to take a risk and lsot 2k de along with 300k gold because of the one time I get ballooned and kept on ground.

i always keep mine in ground and air

they cover a great range but if i have 1 xbow being upgraded i set mine to ground

xbows agasin t ballons are horible.

but the wiz towers and air deffence does a great job especially tesla :3

BUT
If I have an Air Defense upgrading I set them both to Air/Ground.
It's not been a great deterrent from getting raided by air troops but it's sure messed up a few peoples raids for them!
If an XBow is upgrading I set it to Ground for the expanded area.

14 compared with 11 doesn't sounds much but it's covering more than 60% more area...
