First, I apologize if any or all of the ideas below have been previously discussed in other threads. To be honest I am simply to lazy to read through the heap of posts. Still, I think the following has merit, so I will proceed and let the feedback roll in.
SOME BACKGROUND INFO:
I am proposing a new tournament system for clans to compete in. I believe that the following system would satisfy the craving for many sought after features including “clan wars” and new clan roles and controls. Further, with the following system in place, I believe that the current structure of COC would be unaffected and COC’s current game “balance” would be almost untouched. I believe this is an important aspect as we would never want to risk ruining the success that has already taken place with COC. Finally, whenever numbers are mentioned below, I am well aware that these numbers could and may need to be tweaked or greatly adjusted. I am not in anyway here to debate that. It’s the overall flow of the idea with which I am most interested.
THE BASIC PREMISE:
Clans can now sign up to enter a 16, 32, or 64 knockout style clan tournament. For those familiar with online poker, think of these tournaments as “Sit N Go” style tournaments. Clans sign up for a tournament, and when there are enough clans signed up to fill the tournament grid the tourney begins.
ENTRANCE FEE:
In order for a clan to enter the tournament a clan would need to pay an entrance fee and I firmly believe this fee should be only payable in GEMS. Let’s say we set the entrance fee for a tournament at 300 GEMS. Further, a clan would have to be a minimum size in order to compete – say 10 members. Now, where do these gems come from? I am suggesting that clans can contribute to a new POOLED BANK OF GEMS. I know COC has ruled out sharing resources but there would be two things that might make this different: A – the pooled bank of gems could only be used to enter a tournament AND B – gems are a different type of resource then gold and elixir which I believe was the main topic of discussion when sharing of resources was ruled out. So anyone in the clan in Town Hall 7 or above (more on this later) can contribute gems to the tournament pool bank. As you contribute a tracker on your main screen could show you how many gems you have contributed to the current bank. This way, one person could foot more of the bill than another. Once your bank has the required 300 GEMS the clan may sign up for a tournament.
MATCHMAKING:
In order for tournament’s to be successful, challenging and fair, I think a new statistic is necessary. I would propose that a MILITARY PROGRESSION LEVEL stat be enacted for all players. This MILITARY PROGRESSION LEVEL (or MPL) would be similar to a player’s normal “level” but only include progression made from updating defensive structures / walls / traps, troop levels, and spell levels. The further along your base is in terms of defense and the further along your troops are the higher your MPL is. Your clan would then be ranked on it’s AVERAGE MPL. This AMPL would then be used to put you into a tournament with clans that share a similar AMPL AND share the same number of clan members. We could just use levels for simplicity, but I think this new stat would both be useful and easy to calculate / incorporate into the game.
HOW TO ADVANCE IN A TOURNAMENT / HOW TO BATTLE A CLAN:
Once the tournament is set and ready to run you would be matched up against one clan in each round. The winner advances, the loser is out of the tournament and must start the tournament process all over again (if they so wish). Once a round begins, there would need to be a set timeline – say 3 days to complete the round. During a round, everyone in your clan would be able to pull up a special opposing clan battle screen. On this screen every player from the opposing clan would be shown and it would also show how many times each of these players have already been attacked.
The Clan leader and / or The Co-Leaders (Originally I suggested a new role such as GENERAL prior to the last update) would be the only clan members who would get to decide who in their clan could take on the base design of someone from the opposing clan. They could assign one of their clan members to attack any of the opposing team’s bases. Once this assignment has been made, a special tournament attack icon would appear on the designated clan members screen and they could attack. HERE ARE TWO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FEATURES: 1) An attack that takes place within a tournament would NOT yield any loot to the attacking player and conversely the defending player would not lose any loot. The only goal is to destroy as much of the base as possible. AGAIN, NO LOOT WOULD BE TAKEN. ALSO NO TROPHIES WOULD BE GAINED OR LOST. Because of this, 2) ATTACKS COULD TAKE PLACE AT ANY TIME – EVEN WHEN THE PLAYER HAS AN ACTIVE SHIELD OR IF THE PLAYER IS ONLINE. The attack cannot hurt the player being attacked except within the premise of the tournament score.
Once an attack is made, the attacking player scores points based on the percentage of the base destroyed. This number would then be multiplied by the townhall level of the defending base AND again possibly multiplied by 2 if the base was 2 starred or 3 if the base was 3 starred. So for example, let’s say I attack a TH8 base and score 74%. The score I would earn for my clan would be 74 x 8 x 2 (for 2 starring the base) = 1184. All traps that were set off on the defensive base would be automatically reset with no charge (as this was simply within the tournament confines).
Now, each base from the opposing team can only be attacked 3 times and no one clan member can be assigned to attack a base more than once. Further, each clan member may only be assigned a total of 3 ATTACKS PER ROUND OF THE TOURNAMENT. So the leader and generals must assign attacks with care and strategy.
I should also mention that only clan members who were in the clan at signup may participate. Others may join your clan in while a tournament is in progress but they would only be tournament spectators.
After the 3 days are up or after all possible attacks have been made by both sides, the round is over and the clan with the highest score advances. The loser is eliminated. I would also suggest that while the round is in play, you would not be able to see how well the opposing team is attacking your clan bases. At the end of the round all attack stacks could be on a summary page.
WINNING A TOURNAMENT:
Going back to the poker analogy, let’s look at what could happen when a clan wins a tournament. 50% of all gems collected for the entrance fee would immediately be given back to Supercell as their “cut”. The remaining gems would be split between the first and second place teams – the first place team claiming 35% of the gems and the second place team claiming 15% of the gems. Let’s look at a 16 clan tournament to see how this would play out.
Each team enters with the 300 gem entrance fee. Total pot = 16 x 300 = 4800 gems.
Supercell takes 50% = 2400
1st Place takes 35% = 1680
2nd Place takes 15% = 720
The gems are then given back to the players in the clan that footed the bill for the original 300 gem entrance fee. If you contributed 25 gems (8% of the total fee) then you would get 8% of the winnings – in the case of first place in our example you would get 134 gems back. The players in the clan who didn’t contribute get no gems. Now, those players still may have helped with the victory by winning matches, so I would propose a second prize:
In a 16 clan tournament:
First place clan members get 50% of all storages filled as a bonus and second place clan members get 30% of all storages filled.
In a 32 clan tournament:
First place clan members get 75% of all storages filled as a bonus and second place clan members get 55% of all storages filled.
In a 64 clan tournament:
First place clan members get 100% of all storages filled as a bonus and second place clan members get 80% of all storages filled.
These storage filling prizes would go to all participating clan members even if they did not contribute to the gem bank.
Furthermore, special clan badges would be awarded for 1st and 2nd place that would be displayed near your clan name on your clan page to bask in your tournament success glory.
SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
I said earlier that only someone in a townhall 7 or higher could contribute gems to the bank of gems needed to enter a tournament. This would be in place to try and prevent someone from signing up a new account – using the new gems to help a clan enter a tournament and then discarding the account. If someone wants to build up to a TH7 then use the gems so be it. But even if this person was on a winning clan, the new base would get the proportion of the winnings it contributed so it can’t help all that much anyway.
Special tournaments could also be set up: for example, Supercell might set up a tournament that was ARCHERS ONLY. So the only unit you could use would be archers when attacking. These “themed” tournament possibilities are endless.
So that’s it in a nutshell.
I’m all ears to constructive feedback.
