Someone mentioned this in another post:
"And thats really one of their biggest problems in adding fun to the game.. They are too afraid to give something back, because it could risk costing them a slight piece of their profit."
As a company SC has to balance keeping players involved, and turning a buck. They can't do one without the other right.
Do you think they're leaning too far one way or the other? Where's the fine line?

I don't have SC's financial records, so i can't give an informed opinion.
I can, however, speculate and complain that they are gonna lose players if they keep this up, and claim that they don't know anything about running a business.
But i choose not to.
We had them give us a decent xmas present in the boosts, then they reduced the cost of them permanently (barracks) so they are not afraid to give something back.
They are a bit stuck for giving too much because it could affect the game and of course annoy everyone that earlier had to work harder to get where they are.
More deals, more often. Increase the puny gem rewards for achievements and instead of pushing upwards in levels, start improving the core of the game. That would be giving a lot back in investing in the games longevity rather than the quick bucks of adding a level, which quite frankly a two year old could do in a few minutes.
I know allot of people scoff at the gem boost specials but I like them personally. There a simple way to change things up and help smooth out bumps in the road. I can understand why SC prefers this over having loot permanently high.
But I really think they should implement Master Mind's daily quest thing. Once you get to Th9 everything takes FOREVER. I am really concerned when I hit Th10 the game is going to feel drawn out and tedious.
Hmm with my 200th post(not a big deal, but yay) id like to say its hard to complain at supercell. They created a game that is miles ahead of what we have seen on ios before. I love this game, but the content is stale. I don't see the need in creating more threads about it though. Supercell knows(or at least they should). But sandalhat is right; they need to progress or people will start to move on.
I think people assume way too much about SC's intentions. They obviously have detailed information about the amount of players leaving the game, new players joining, and gem purchases. Eventually it will get to a point where it doesn't make business sense to continue to develop the game, and they will simply let it slowly die out. It happens to every game, but I don't think we are anywhere near that point with CoC though.
Also, every game I have played has grown stale eventually. When it does, I don't blame the gaming company. I just pack up my bags and move on. Its normal.
I don't think they are leaning to far either way. Most game apps have a shelf life of 30 days - that is the average time someone plays. Also - only 20% of players continue to play a game the second day after it's downloaded.
SC is currently making 2.4 mil a day on 2 games that are both almost a year and a half old. Boon Beach isn't included in that because I'm too lazy to go look up the numbers for that, so I didn't include it at all.
Now having said that, we all know there are people enjoying this game that never make gem purchases.
So I think they are doing something right so far - and they sure know more about gaming then I ever could. I also trust that they also want to keep both games running as long as possible in the manner they already do- meaning fresh content & making a $.
Thats just my $.02 cents though.

I'm still having fun with this game and just past my 1 year clashiversery! I never thought I'd play a game for over 3 months, and especially a mobile game, so I think supercell has created something quite spectacular!

I really have fun with coc. I have been playing for 14 months and its the 1st app I open in the am and the last in the pm.
Actually they did not give us a present, but only a discount on the gem boosting.. Point being, that we still had to pay gems to get our "present"..Quote:

The now reduced cost on boosting baracks i really just see as a way for them to maximize profit.. They had a way too high price before, so nobody would spend their gems on boosting them.. So now they reduce the price to get people start using this boost = using gems... I'd say it was a great present. That boost time was the most fun I have had with the game ever, easily. You are right that it was a smart business move. I just don't get why people act like that is a bad thing.

So even though cheaper baracks boost in it self is a good thing for many, then behind that is the fact that army building times are simply just way too long and extremely booring to wait for, so maybe it had been better for gameplay to shorten the build time on troops, spells and heroes, but that fix would have maybe cost them a bit in peoples gems spending.. So now we get an only partly fix of the problem instead where they can get people to gem boosts.
Now think of other improvements where this game could be improved and made much more fun, like clan wars, tournaments, masterminds ideas, etc.. Much of this could easily have been added, making this game much more fun and exiting again, but maybe is not simply because these show now way to add extra profits.

Every move in the past few updates to the game have been made with the $-glasses on. Greed? No, just business. I get that, but I am guessing, I'm not the only one who might consider tossing a dime to the game if something different was added to the game, that would make it fun again for me.
This game is like a casino, think you can win and pay the cash, sometimes it goes well, but mostly you lose, just how it works.
game gets boring because is slow the higher you go, however having been around for a long time I can say that although it is good to express an opinion there are not enough players on the forums to justify a change to SC if all of us were to quit today the loss SC will make would be minimal as a lot more join everyday.
i agree with most comments that the Xmas present is a discount not a gift but certainly it added a much needed enjoyment. I think the higher levels and TH should just have boosted barracks as the bigger the camp the longer it takes for an attack and the waiting times are the only thing ruining the game.
thats just my opinion though

Supercell gave us the chance to boost our barracks, drills, spell factory and collectors for a very much reduced cost in gems. Maybe not a gift in the sense of something totally free.

The thing about clash is that there are older and strikingly similar games out there but I think clash has the best concept and ideas, the frustrating thing is that there is soo much potential for Coc to improve but we aren't gonna get our say due the the value of today's money.
