No, he's not working 24/7, alas, but suddenly this evening he's standing by his box, dancing around, like he does when he's ready to work. But if I click the box, he says he's tired and needs to rest.
Why isn't he lying down like he used to? I don't set alerts for him or anything; I look to see if he's standing up or lying down. Now that doesn't work, because he never lies down.
This is actually normal for Tom. He only sleeps when you want him to work, otherwise, he stands in the middle of the road kicking the dust and playing chicken with the truck.
Interesting. That isn't how it used to be for me. I've been using Tom for weeks now, and he was always sleeping until he was ready to work. If you clicked his box, he'd get up and say he needed to rest, and the countdown until he could work again appeared. Then he'd lie down again.
If he was standing by his box, I'd know he was ready to work again. That suddenly changed tonight. He doesn't lie down at all now. If you click his box, he says he needs to rest, but remains standing by his box.
Interesting. I just checked on my farm and he almost got bowled by the wheel truck arriving. when I clicked on him he did ask if I wanted to hire him again, so perhaps there is something amiss. Try shutting down your device - ie doing a hard restart of your device, not just closing HD.
I already tried a restart. Also went to the Play store to see if there was an update (there wasn't).

OK, click on the cog on the top left hand of your screen and click on the Help and Feedback button. On the bottom at the far right you will see a button that says Report an Issue. Click on that and then the Report Problem button. Email SC with a screenshot of Tom saying he's tired, if possible.
Well, things seem back to normal now. After the two-hour rest period, Tom ran an errand for me (9 shovels, of course), and is now sleeping like he used to.
Weird.
My Tom is now not working at all. Have to pay him with diamond then only he'll work for me.
By then, he always stands there & I feel so pity of him, so I always tap him & say 'No Thanks'; asking him to lay down. Haha.

I glad you brought this up because this has been happening to me also. I just didn't think it was a big deal until other people said they were noticing the same thing. I used to have Tom hired all of the time but now I don't because I can't fit my life around his schedule. But all of the time I notice he's standing by the little box but when I click on him he wants me to hire him again so I just no thanks & he lays back down. But a little while later there he is, standing up again.
