Being a leader can definitely be quite a bit of work, depending on the structure of the clan. I tried leading a clan (from scratch) for a couple months over a year ago, and I must say, it's very exhausting if you can't find a good loyal core fairly quickly. I couldn't at the time, and it puts too much pressure on the leader if there aren't enough people willing to help with chat, donations, etc. I eventually gave it up when I realized I would be becoming slightly less active, and I don't regret it one bit.
Lesson learned: one person can't do it all, and probably shouldn't try. If people find themselves in such a situation, I can't blame them for expressing discontent, if not stepping down outright.
But in every other clan I've been in, there has been a good solid core of people at the heart of the clans. It really makes for a better all-around environment, which naturally is beneficial for the leader and everyone else. Striving to have that kind of dynamic should be priority number 1 IMO.
