Anyone who has a problem with you "copying" their farm has some serious issues. I've had someone copy my farm exactly and I didn't have a problem with it. I found it flattering that they liked my farm style. Unfortunately since they introduced new machines and other ♥♥♥♥ I had to redo my farm. Now it's really not as decorative as I like. It's more of just "functional." :( I need tons more room to lay it out like I want.
But yes, go for it! Don't let it bug you if someone has a problem with you "stealing" ideas. They can "unfriend" you and then you can add someone who is better suited to be your friend.
Come take a look...I'm not going looking for a job tomorrow as an interior decorator or anything, but for me, I like it :DQuote:

About your original concerns...
Personally I am amazed by the amount of variation found between farms.
At the end of the day, we will all have the same (if not similar) amount of land, the same number of plots, machines, animals and pens etc. for our respective levels. The only real variable I see is the number of trees/shrubs, pets and decos you can add.
The fact that some farms look eerily similar to others is bound to happen within these constraints.
Being able to manipulate that is clever indeed, but you do see repetition everywhere, just in slightly different variations.
As boring as my farm is, I bet Ive copied thousands of others that have come before me (and will come yet).
Decorate and arrange however it pleases YOU at every level.
