Copying or not?

In the interest of not wanting to tick anyone off... I have a question.

i want to totally redo my farm, I've been looking through farms the past few weeks seeing what I like and trying to come up with a plan. I'm soooo not a decorator!

so, my question, is it just blatant copying if I do something similar to a farm decorating style I like? Obviously I'm not going to place each machine in same location and decorate it exactly the same...but using the general idea...would that be just rude? Or is it a form of flattery (I liked it so much I'm going to great lengths to redo entire farm in similar style)?

Curious to see people's thoughts on this!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say, I say, Go for it!

I think it is a great idea to get ideas from other farms. Although anybody who has seen my farm probably wouldn't think so, that is what I did early on to help me figure out how I wanted it to look. I even followed a couple of beautiful farms so I could become more familiar with their layout. Good luck putting together a look you like!

With 3 million or more farms out there and a limited number of items to place in a limited number of places, chances are high that no matter what you do, your farm will resemble someone else's. Don't worry about it, just go for it!

To me it'd be a compliment to decorate your farm in a style of someone else's. I'm not saying copy everything they have but you change it up a little and you never know, you may end up with a completely different style that someone else may like. That's how my farm happened. I saw someone with a little resting area (lanterns, small pond, gazebo, & benches). So I decided to add it for my farm & design it out. I then added stone pathways & hedges. And those pathways led to areas for my animals. So I think it's cool to take what you like & add it to your farm (not a whole big area from another farm) but something small & start from there. That way you can take their idea & turn it into something better that you feel suits you. I would really really love to decorate more but I'm pretty tight on space. I'd like to add more to my resting & pet areas, maybe change it up. I love to decorate my farm but I really wish they would give us more land so I can decorate my heart out!!! I guess I'll have to tame my ideas for now lol. Good luck on decorating, I hope it turns out great :).

Go for it. I take ideas from here and there and duplicate them in my farm. My latest copy was positioning the ponds with trees and flowers in strategic places to make them look like a continuos river. My copy is not as great as the one I saw because I am lacking the space. I would not mind if others copy decoration styles.

Absolutely go for it!

I've pinched ideas from other farms I've admired, wishing I'd been as clever. Make a few changes here and there to put your stamp on it, and, presto, you have your dream farm.

Heres a tip if you haven't already done it. Takes snapshots of the features you like. Sometimes something has caught my eye while shopping and later I couldn't find or return to the farm to study the layout. With pictures that's no longer a problem.

LOL, sounds like my farm, but I bet it wasn't.
Attachment 24961You can see when visiting farms in the DD how ideas catch on and spread - eg the apartment houses made from outhouses. Each one is different, but the concept is the same. Using other farms as inspiration for your own isn't going to bring you grief.
