So I'm practically a maxed th8. All i got left is lvl 6 teslas and a couple archer towers. One problem: since I upgraded way premmie with lvl 4 and 5 walls, I currently only have lvl 7 walls, as I was busy upgrading defense coz my defense was no good either. So now I've got this conundrum. Do I stay down an extra month to do L8 walls? (I may not get them done for a long time if not now.) Or do I just upgrade and get on with th9?

Do the walls. I waffled for a month before deciding to just do it. I finished them a couple days before my th9 finished. I'm glad I did, there are so many new upgrades to be done that I am glad I did it.
Do you intend to eventually have skull walls? If yes, try to grind walls as best as you can at th8.
As you probably know, loot gets harder the higher you go. And there will be too many new toys at th9 to distract you. So better to grind the walls at th8 as best as you can (aka until you get bored).
I am almost maxed on defenses (except bombs) for th9 but I'm going to grind legos until I get bored. I went uber premmie so I grinded all my walls at th9 and it is not a fun venture. :)

I did them and don't regret it. They help out quite a bit, even on cleanup crew against hogs.
Farming at TH9 has gotten a lot better. I'd say it might even be better than TH8 with the increased camp space and lvl6 troops.
It doesn't hurt.
Walls can be done while you are upgrading the townhall as well as finishing up lab upgrades and your last few defenses.
This debate has been brought up a lot, and with the new loot change my personal opinion is it won't be THAT BIG of a hindrance at town hall 9 since the loot has been modified.
Lvl 8 walls cannot be breached by any 1 wallbreaker, even with rage (I think lvl 6 WB's could if raged...?)
Plus 3,000 HP is a lot for giants/barbs/archers/goblins to bust through on their own.
So bottom line:
I would save up for your last few Archer Towers, get those going. Then save for your Townhall upgrade. Once you've got that going, dump all excess money into walls while still aggressively raiding. I wouldn't hold up your upgrade on account of it.

Personally, I'm at th 10 finishing walls lvl 8 with my base almost maxed out, I prefer it this way as defences > walls.

As I'm not a hard core player, raid prob 6-10 times a day, it did take a while. But as you never have much gold in the storages you never get raided hard as other than DE and Elixier there is nothing to lose. I also found it painfull as it seemed to take forever but when I got to the 100 left, 75, 50 marks i could see the progress and was happy, the last 50 was awesome.
Now the advantages, in terms of what a wall breaker can do at max level vs walls at 7 there isn't any difference, But what I have noticed vs my clan mates moving to 9 with purples, I DONT get attacked any where near as much, and they tend to go for the TH and then bug out.
I remember freaking out at the beginning of the TH9 thinking I was going to get flat out raided while I was upgrading the x bows, but it never happened. Even now thanks to Daddy for the base design i still mostly get TH sniped, with 1 or 2 larger (rarely that big) raids a week when my storages are over 4 mill. The skulls give the Fear Factor.
Now another thing I'll add, when I turned to TH9 I found raiding very hard, remember there is no more attacking level 7 bases, it 8,9 and 10 from here. I found it very beneficial getting giants upgrade early as they are a awesome meat wall for my troops, esp the Queen. also have in mind that the 1gem boosts are over now, and as a new th9 before the 1 gems I was happy if I took 100k. Now I'm able to go bigger and deeper and get 200k and up per raid. But again this could be changing due to the boosts
So with what I learned I would still max skulls at th8 every time before moving up. Focus on getting the Barb and all research done as well while your waiting, as when you get the Queen you will focus on her over the King. And also I don't think I will be bothering with taking the walls any higher.

Like many have said, staying and doing your walls is a good call. Lvl 8's shouldn't take a great deal of time for an active farmer. I'm currently sat with max th 9 buildings, but am finishing lvl 9 walls before upgrading. Good luck!
Get the skulls, way too much stuff at th9 to upg and they all take a long time. I went to th9 with about half of my walls skulled, it took me 3 months to get back to them. Finished now and starting on Legos, but man it took forever.
I'd agree with you if your talking high level (crystal and masters) farming but if you are in the gold leagues, having th7s as a viable raid option trumps your points above.Quote:

I was faced with this decision around a month ago at the start of my christmas holidays, (3 weeks long) but I decided that with the time and dedication I could do it. I had a maxed lab and defences other than teslas so I moved up to TH9 with 110 walls to to...
So I had 10 days to do 110 walls working out to 5.5 million gold everyday...
luckily this was just as they released the Barack one gem boost and I powered through them but sadly was faced with 25 more walls unfinished as well as the new 25 for Th9.
Safe to say I am happy I decided to focus on walls as now I have all lvl 8 walls other than the funnelling and I am loving Th9! :cool: Good luck
Walls are great, but everyone seems to neglect heroes. More time at TH8 means less time to upgrade heroes. If only u guys knew how awesome a maxed AQ can be...Quote:

Thing to remember is once you go to TH9 you will be getting attacked by much stronger opponents. Skull walls do see to deter people. I know when I see a base with pink or purple walls I instantly want to attack it (unless it has disco balls) even though in reality there is probably very little difference from skull walls.
I was fully maxed when I went to TH9 and have found even though I was almost always offering 350k in gold and elixir I was very rarely attacked. Considering how many people complain on here that they can’t do anything since they lose so much every time they log off it seems to make a difference.
Also when farming any attack is bad for you since even a fail attack will often mean resetting some trap or filling CC. Also gaining the trophies means when you get too high and need to drop that is one more person you are inviting to zap you de with risk of being revenged. So for this reason it is always good to have a base that doesn't encourage people to attack.

I would do them. First of all, if you're ever planning to enjoy TH 10, you're going to need decent walls. It's not fun to farm up there, as the loot penalties take away hundreds of thousands of available loot for a high-loot target. U might as well do them, otherwise, its just going to get harder up there.
But, if you're having difficulty, go to TH 9 and rely upon raiding storages.
My suggestion would be to max your defense, queue up TH, farm as many as you can during that stretch, and finish up at TH9. Walls are a great deterrence and does help against most ground troops, but level 8 walls are easy enough to do that you can finish them at TH9 as you can easily do a handful in between upgrades when builders are free every few days. Level 9 walls are much more of a hassle, and if you want those you'll want to do them at TH9.

Personally I believe in a pro premie strategy. Keep your builders busy and raid as much as you want. When you max your townhall's walls, move on. Doesn't matter what level your defense are, just move on. Your offense will improve leading to faster wall and defense growth. This of course ends at th9 when you enter the meat of the game. A premie(not gemmed or super rushed) th9 has both cheap and expensive upgrades to do along with their walls.

There are many reasons not to upgrade your TH, but worrying about getting attacked and not upgrade to TH9 is one of the silliest for several reasons.
1) You get more walls and which boosts your defenses right after you get to TH9
2) You get more defense structures
3) You get stronger defense structures
4) Your resources are divided between 4 storages, making it harder for attackers to get everything
And the most important one against the fear to be attacked:
5) Anything stolen from you can be reclaimed within 1 or 2 attacks!
furthermore, there are many ways to prevent your loot from being stolen. The most common one is putting TH outside your base. Afraid the bait doesn't work fast enough? Put an abundant resource like an elixer storage next to it.
Someone in my clan had purple walls at early TH10 back in July. 6 months later he has maxed pretty much all his defences (but archer towers), has about 30 Lev9 walls and the rest skull. Point is, it's possible to catch up. If you're going to have idle builders for more than 10 days, it might not be worth it. In that time you could upgrade your lab, camps, get xbows, etc.
Staying would be foolish. Yes, loot is better at TH8, but is that really worth idle builders for 3 weeks?
The fact of the matter is, if you prioritize those lv8 walls early in TH9, you WILL get them done. And WHEN you do, you will be FARTHER AHEAD of where you WOULD HAVE BEEN at that time had you stayed in TH8 for too long.
The idea of "max your town hall before upgrading" is a great one. In theory. Once you make a mistake and fall behind on walls (which you have done), toss that idea out the door. You have a sunk cost - don't let that cloud your decision making process.
This is basic economics. Run some math if you need to as to where you'd be in 6-8 weeks staying as TH8 vs. upgrading now. I guarantee you that you're better off upgrading once your builders have nothing left to do.
Gold will be worse as TH9, but TIME IS THE MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE YOU HAVE.
Your best bet is to start that TH9 upgrade so it finishes right when your lv6 Tesla's finish. Work hard on walls during that time, and hopefully you get a chunk done. Start doing walls early in TH9 so you don't run into the same problem when you're going to upgrade to TH10. Or accept that lv8 walls is your stopping point, and spread them out across TH9.
Every player's game is theirs to play. In my opinion, as long as your builders are busy and you are having fun, you're playing the game right. Don't let those builders sit for too long.
Do as many walls as you can since it seems like you still have a few things left such as bk! and also grind out as many as you can while th is upgrading.
