First of all, BAM is the most efficient way to farm anything, including DE. But the key is to know which bases to raid. You may see a th10 with 600k gold, 600k elixer and 4000 DE but if it's all in the middle surrounded by ITs you just need to hit next.
The ideal scenario is to get yourself up to right under 1800 trophys, fill up 2 barracks with barbs, 2 with archers, and 2 with minions and just go on a gold hunting spree. Forget about trophys, forget about anything else except maximizing gold. If you see 100k gold sitting in mines that you can get with 20 barbs...TAKE IT! Then just surrender and go on to the next fight. You can ride that wave all the way down to 1200 trophys and more than likely you will also be fine on DE until you get to silver. Most of those abandoned bases also have full pumps.
I know many people like to use ridiculous giants for DE farming but you don't need them (why would you use a troop that bypasses resources when you are trying to take those resources???????????????????). There are SO many people on this game who don't properly protect their DE that you can raid ridiculous amounts of it with BAM. 20 minions and 1 rage spell takes down 1000 DE from a storage very quickly. So in addition to raiding those abandoned pumps look for DE storages behind one or 2 walls, clear out the outside buildings with your barbs and archers. Drop 1 or 2 minions to check for air bombs. And then boom, unload the rest of the minions on the DE. It's all yours.
The one thing I will say about DE farming is that you really need to stay above 1500 trophys. It gets pretty slim once you get below that.
