Berry bush orientation - by jove she's got it.

I finally cracked it! I got my other half to buy me a stylus for Christmas, so now I can see which way the thing is oriented when I drag it to the farm, and if it's wrong I can just let go and try again. Better than trying to peer under my finger or guessing where it's gone and whether it was my aim that was wrong or the orientation. Also a lot better for my blood pressure and the future integrity of my phone and my windows.

The stylus: the way forward.


(In actual fact he got me a packet of them - all different colours. They're on a little string that plugs into the headphone socket - so cute.)

Great gift!

I ussually zoom in at max before dragging to see the bush part out of my finger.

That is so funny.. Good post. So true as well, although I do tend to drop 'em and spin 'em occasionally. I have the greatest respect for folk who play this game on a mobile phone, because I would not even attempt it.

i'm with John on this; it's hard enough on an iPad mini! I keep a clear space next to my berry field so I can reorientate bushes, if necessary. It hadn't occurred to me to just drop the ones facing the wrong way. That would make life easier. Thanks for the pointer!

I couldn't play hayday on a phone those who do I don't know how you do it! When I first saw hayday in the App Store I was on my Iphone and found it extremely difficult to play on such a small screen so as soon as I got an ipad I started playing on there, I noticed it was much easier on a larger screen but a bigger screen still doesn't avoid the problem of accidentally spending diamonds!

I play on a phone and placing berry bushes is MOST annoying. So I just keep dragging and dropping until they cooperate and place themselves properly. It does help, though, to expand the area on the screen to its largest size. At least I can see the bush under my finger a bit.

I play on iphone... And I didn't find it hard at all! I do have an ipad, but I don't carry it around and I don't know how to play the same farm on 2 devices (can you?), so phone it is!

Yes, you can play the same farm on both devices, as the farm is linked in Game Center, which also saves it for you should your device be damaged or upgraded. I play on my ipad mostly but do farm on my iPhone if out and about and I have a few minutes to indulge:rolleyes:

I play on a Galaxy S4. Berry bushes are kind of annoying. I'm not sure how the game decides which way to put them, but I usually end up placing them in a clear area, rotating them the way I want, then moving them into position.

Accidentally spending diamonds is far more aggravating. I must have accidentally spent a hundred of them. Usually for something that not only doesn't help, but actually makes things worse. Like speeding up wheat when my silo is already full. (Honestly, who in their right mind would spend diamonds to speed up wheat???)

I've actually arranged my farm to make mistakes like that less likely. (It did mean having to expand my land a lot, since things are more spread out.) I still get caught once in awhile, though. Yesterday I somehow accidently sped up goat milk production when collecting bacon in a nearby pen. Extremely infuriating, not least because one goat is now out of sync with the rest, constantly reminding me of those wasted 7 diamonds.

I wish there were some way to lock my diamonds in a vault until I was ready to use them.

Congratulations!! A whole new world of calm is before you. Far, far fewer accidental diamond expenditures while you await the button, fewer mistakes on grabbing the wrong item to place in a queue, so much easier to grab trees and bushes (or anything else) for moving about, etc., etc., etc. The accuracy can't be beat. :):)

I play on an iPhone and there is no way in this world or the next to do so without losing my sanity if not for my trusty stylus. Considering the accuracy it gives by being so much smaller than a finger tip and also that your hand is higher and not blocking your view, this is a great gadget to have no matter what your device. Which is why I so highly recommend it so often.

Even after they institute the button for all, I'll still use my stylus as it helps with so many aspects of the game beyond just expenditures. I even use it for texting...typos go by by (just be sure to turn off auto correct). :)

You may wish to give a stylus a try so you don't have to deal with all that aggravation any longer. The cheaper ones run about $8-10 US and can be found in Target, Best Buy, and similar stores, so it's an easy and fairly inexpensive gadget to try and see if you like it.

Could barely survive without my stylus! Actually, my styli? Is that the plural form of the word? Anyway, I have multiple b/c I have a knack for losing them.

I find the whole berry bush orientation thing frustrating. I eagerly opened the string hoping I was going to learn a trick to control the direction they land. I've mastered the whole click & drop if sideways thing, but the OCD in me wants those bushes to land the "right way" every time!

PS - recommend the mesh tip if you're gonna purchase.

They weren't quite what I was looking for, as they've got a very rounded tip like an eraser on the end of a pencil, and I was after a pointier tip, but actually they're rather nice to use. When you select things it's kind of bouncy. And they're cheap as chips :D

Went looking on US amazon and found them. The shipping is actually more than the item. Lol. But they are inexpensive. I also found other brands and bundles that included mini styluses (sp?). Hope this doesn't count as advertising because I think it's very pertinent to improving the Hay Day experience. I use a stylus but often set it down and "lose" it for awhile. Now they are going to be everywhere, kind of like my hubby's "reading" glasses. :rolleyes: Thanks Velcro.

Perhaps the Hayday folks can make it so that when you pick a bush (or tree) from the menu in an upward motion it would orientate one way and a downward motion would choose the other orientation. It's been bugging me and I always zoom before placing.

That would be really useful actually, along with a local zoom like iphones use for placing a cursor in text.

I play on a phone and it is very challenging at times

I find it quite useful to swear at the ones which come out the wrong way. It doesn't actually help but it does relieve the frustration a little. ;)

Is it me or do they 'alternate' the orientation for every drop?

Anyway, Im with John...a drag, drop & spin for me every time!

I love using my stylus, especially for playing hayday. I bought a 6 pack of them on amazon. They have the bigger bulbous tips on them, but I like them. Mine say: The Friendly Swede on them, came in different colors. One thing I don't like though is that the rubbery end starts to crack and then the tip peels off and doesn't work anymore. I've lost 2 now because of that. I'm going to have to order me some more.

Whenever I pull a bush out to place it, if it's not the right direction, I move it to where there is no space so it doesn't drop and then try again until I get a bush that is laying the right direction. Usually I just drop and then rotate it myself, but i like doing it this other way more. The bush doesn't always 'alternate' directions every other bush. I laid out about 6 raspberries earlier today and they all came out the same direction each time. Sometimes, I get several in a row before it switches.

Same here. The best rubber tip I've found is Targus brand, which has outlasted the others already and still looks almost new. I especially like that they offer a long version, which is much easier to hold for us old fogies. It also has a finer tip than the regular length styluses, so gives even more accuracy. :)

I'm currently trying out the fiber tips, which are very smooth and glidy so they sometimes loose connection if I don't hold them just right. Haven't found anyone offering them in a long length though, which I really need for the comfort. The one I'm trying out now, amPen Hybrid, has replaceable tips so you don't have to throw out the whole stylus when the tip wears out. I like that environmental consideration.

So, I'm in a toss up right now on which I'll stick with.

Don't worry about the few links on this thread. They are on topic and no one is getting a monetary kickback. :D We just don't want to go overboard.

1. Before you open the purchase bar, tap a bush that is in the orientation you desire. Usually the new bush will come out with that same orientation. (Why it can't remember the orientation of the bush you just cut down is a mystery to me--seems obvious from a programming point of view.)

2. If the bush you are buying comes out in the wrong orientation, drop it in an unavailable space. The purchase bar will pop open automatically. If you tap twice on the new bush before dragging it off of the bar, it usually changes orientation.

I can't use the drop-and-spin trick because there are NO empty spots on my farm! I wish these tricks were more reliable. Replacing bushes drives me nuts, and the orientation problem seems so unnecessary.

Cheers for the tips (no pun intended). I'm not surprised these things wear out - they're so cheap that you can't help thinking they must be virtually disposable. Not environmentally ideal though, like you say. I do like the fact that they're telescopic though, so it's all small and cute when it's hanging off your phone and you just pull it out like a radio aerial.

I play on iPad and my other half plays on his mobile. He doesn't seem all that bothered by the tiny screen but I suppose that's all he's known. I, on the other hand, would get very frustrated after the lovely big screen on the eyepad!

This game does challenge us in a variety of ways I am finding!

Amazing how such small things can irk us...but then too having such limited room has helped you discover these clever little tips to resolve the original frustration.

Im sure many (esp. with space issues) will be keen to try your methods.

Hey Muggaloo! We're so glad to hear that you loved our stylus pens! :o And we're even more thankful for the honest feedback--and also apologetic to hear that the tips have already broke. Can I ask though as to how long did it take you until the tips start to crack? And what kind of our stylus pens did you purchase? Nonetheless, it is vital that our products don't wear away too soon since our tips have a life expectancy of 6 months, so we would love to know what happened with yours. Maybe you received a bad bunch? :confused:

Its life expectancy of course will depend on how it is used as well. Soft styli should be treated like a small, soft-tipped paint brush to stroke the screen versus pushing down to try to write.
