I'm level 59(nearly 60) and TH9 and have level 5/6 walls, I still win most of the time, farmers or not farmers. I prefer to upgrade my defences instead of walls.

I am TH8 and sometimes I revenge and spam dragons. Sure, it's not profitable, but there comes a time when your elixir is always overflowing...and you have to sleep..so why not queue a few dragons. Nothing feels better than waking up and razing someone's Town to rubble. Who cares if I make a profit or not...I can't think of a better way to spend elixir :p

You are a weak th9, with poor walls.

I sense bravado.

If farming is keeping your builders busy all the time then you can farm at TH9 - you just need to take into account that the builds take longer so you have longer to collect resources.

100k gold from a few barbs is rare but still happens at times, most of the time you are investing 10-20k gold in 'next' to find 100k+ gold matches

Premature TH9 here as well, raiding 180 level 6 barbs at a time with a total cost of 27k Elixir and 15 minutes to create all 180 troops.

Pulling in easily 1 million gold and elixir per hour if you're constantly raiding (900kish gold after Next buttoning for them all)

Stop whinging.

Use your builders and upgrade whenever possible to minimise raiding losses.

Also, my hubby is a premmy TH 9. I get so tired of reading about all the whiners who rushed to Th 9 and how hard their lives are, that whenever he complains to me he cannot find the resources to upgrade, I either tune him out or berate him for not playing the damn game properly!
