Read the announcement that kik is shutting down Oct 19th. Anyone know how that will effect those of us that use it regularly to do trades. And/ or what will be the new avenue for communication?

Line......
I don't know what we're going to do. There's no consensus. This thread has some discussion:
https://forum.supercell.com/showthre...-shutting-down
Meonhoc has good summary of the alternatives on page 2 of that thread.
I’m actually thinking that telegram or signal would be better options for those of us looking for a secure, simple chatting mechanism that works around the world.....
Telegram - this is a definite possibility as they protect phone numbers and privacy info under a username like kik did
Whatsapp - this is owned by Facebook which is a deal breaker for me and it’s privacy setting are terms of services are horrible.
Facebook messenger - no. Just......no.
Viber - I don’t love that they automatically add your contacts and can access other parts of your phone....but it’s a fairly simply messenger system
Line - has features similar to kik but also has a lot of other apps features I would never use including VOIP stuff and connections to other apps (do you want line taking over your Uber app? Maybe check)
Signal - this seems to function a lot like kik to me - although it requires a phone number to register. It’s highly secure.
Such a shame kik is shutting down - I’m no techno whizz so will wait till you guys form an opinion and then go with you☹️☹️
After Kik is shut down, it should be interesting to see how its absence will affect traffic in the Hay Day subforum, specifically the trading thread which is the most active thread with about 6000 replies and 264,000 views.

I did not care for the Kik interface. I am okay with FB messenger. Okay with discord. Good with slack.
my two bits:smirk:
There's also Threema, which is from Swiss developers. It's secure, can be used anonymously and has a lot of features. It's not free, though... it's 2.95 CHF to purchase it.
I might sad it’s closing down, I’ve made lots of friends on it & had some good chats with traders...lots of lost contacts & history :(
i do not do Facebook & will not do messenger. I’ll consider most other things, so I think I’ll just see what the general consensus is I think.
We have one hoodmate that uses telegram, so we may try that first. I definitely want to stay in touch with my kik contacts.
Hello
From 19 October the app Kik is no more. As many of us hay day players use Kik for just about everything, I am asking the forum if anyone knows of a alternative which can be used instead of.
Thank you in advance
Just to note: I merged two threads into one and edited the title slightly. Wanted to have a one-stop thread for all things kik and possible alternatives.
Here's an online article I found listing five IM alternatives to Kik. Good luck.

BTW, I just learned that Kik received $50 million in funding from Tencent in 2015. As some of us may remember, Tencent acquired about 84% control of Supercell in 2016 and became Supercell's parent company.

I just downloaded Telegram, as at least one hoodmate is very familiar with it. It seems quite simple, like kik. It does give you the ability to change the notification tone. And you can create groups, and change backgrounds.
Kik was a great app, but let's face it, since they had no revenue streams it was bound to go bankrupt eventually. It wasn't fee-based or ad-based.
Kik decided to get sneaky and created Kin -- their own crypto currency. They did this solely to raise funds to keep Kik alive a bit longer. Now the FCC is on to their scheme. Kik chose to discontinue the Kik app and put any of their remaining funds to the legal battle where they hope to defend Kin as a true crypto currency rather than the funding scheme that it was.
Slack is working good for my hood atm.
Today news mentioned some company intends to buy kik for further development. Waiting for more info.....
What about good old fashioned Skype ? It doesn’t require a phone number, it’s completely anonymous and confidential and allows group chats as well as one to one messaging. You just need an email and you create your own user name.
It seems the most like kik to me - lots of the others will allow users to see your phone number (or require a number to register) and that’s a deal breaker for a lot of us.
it’s also free, but I think you might see ads now in the header but that doesn’t bother me overly as long as it’s free.
Skype isn't a safe platform. For example if you download the app on your phone and look up usernames of anyone and/or previous usernames someone used in the past, that person might put their real first and last name (You will be able to see on the app) which is dangerous. Not only that in the past there were resolvers that could potentially get an IP address just by looking up their Skype username. It's not safe at all and gamers don't prefer to use it.
Kik ceo tweeted 3 days ago that he might have a new owner for kik. So we may not have to switch after all

It was a big call for help from kik, I prefer thinking that someone heard. Could be worse.
Fab - looks like kik is still alive
