You can, its pretty simple actually. I start playing the music before i get on CoC, and when the game loads the music stops. Well if you swipe from the bottom up, it brings up a little menu on your IPad, and you can hit the play button to continue playing music. Hope this helps.
I'm able to do this just fine. I begin the music before i launch the app. Also, I believe you have the wrong sub-forum here. This would probably better fit under suggestions/feature ideas if its a feature you'd like implemented more smoothly
Press Settings then Toggle music Off.

it's easy: you have to play the music AFTER you're in the app, with iOS7 it's easy with the controlcenter but I think you can also do something like that in iOS 6... so good luck!
If you're playing music and want to play CoC at the same time, just kill CoC in multitask and go back into the app and the music won't stop. :)
