How is this game suppoosten to be played?

With these freemium games I never know when you play them as they're supposed to be played. Spending no money is clearly not the way it is intended but how much do you have to spend to get the full experience. I used BAM today for the first time ( I'm a th9, lvl 106) and boosted my barracks for the first time as well. For the first time I was able to emerge myself in the game for an hour straight and make more than 2.5 million gold during that time. It was one of the best experiences with this game yet. Really felt like the right way to play this game. Now I'm just curious what you guys think is the right way. So let me know...

Download CoC.
Farm for 10 months.
Stop farming.
Start trophy pushing.
Quit CoC when bored.

Play Hay Day.

IMO, there is no such thing as the "right" way to play; the best way to play is just however you want to play it. For me, right now, that consists of high trophy farming, but I'm happy to spend a little money from time to time if there is a specific thing I'm really after (lvl 6 gobs, hitting champ, etc.).

At this point i really don't see that this game has any direction to take that will be "the right one".

Don't really think that supercell has any plan on what way they would like the gameplay to evolve eigther, as it just seems every update get's some random stuff added with no real direction made for what direction they want to take this game..

Actually one update often cancels the direction that was maybe taken in the update just previous..

Depending on who you ask, there will be a million different answers.

If you ask SuperCell & the competitor trophy clans out there,
the farming community shouldn't even exist in the first place.
What we do is counterintuitive & a never ending grind that often leads nowhere.

Now, if you decide to ask amongst the farming community,
we can't even agree on a definition on the best way to play this game.
Can we gem, or can we not?
If we allow it, how much?
Then, do we just farm exclusively, or do we mix it up a little?

For me, I'm hiding in semi retirement, hopping from clan to clan to make social calls
(and also for the odd black market dragon transfer - but don't tell them that).

I have farmed for over a year, and while I'm very grateful for the friends I have made in this community,
as well as the sweet blinged-out base it has afforded me,
collector raids @ low trophy land eat at my soul.

Trophy hunting was no better, because I couldn't stand the constant need to stay logged on.
My idea of an ideal iOS game is one that I can start & stop as and when I like,
with no deterrence to my progress:
otherwise, I'd just stay in the office all day.

So now, I am stuck in limbo:
I do not want to hunt, but neither do I want to ♥♥♥♥ at one wall after another.

So, I guess, what I am trying to say, in more words than are necessary, is:
find a way that makes you happiest & have fun when you're at it.
At the end of the day, the game is exactly just that: a game.

without that huge farmfactor on walls this game would be more enjoyable on the trophy/ladder-sector. i think many players just burn out after they finished all their upgrades and quit.

trophies and farming in general has to be reworked as a whole imo. the incentive of trophies is to small and the cost of walls to high right now.

20k gems divided by the top 10 players in a league season is a joke, plain and simple. this is where they have to start rethinking the whole system.

With regards to this being a freemium game, I would not suggest buying gems unless you are serious about playing. That being said, assuming you are in the US, spend $25 to buy the fourth and fifth builder, only after you get to 1250 trophies, and use that award to buy the third.
