Recently as a TH 7 i have maxed my BK at lvl 5. My Minions are also lvl 2 and I am going to get my hogs to lvl 2. Through personal experience I have found that, and this may sound like a cop out, it depends. What is your goal? purely DE or other resources as well? I have found that it become hard to farm DE when you let other resources distract you. I have actually passed up quite a few nice collector bases because I was going for DE before. Also The base that you are attacking needs to be considered. Does it have multi-inferno's. If yes, then skip it, they destroy farming armies. Is the DE storage easily accessible to attack? If yes AND there is at least say 650+ DE AND you will be able to take it on without using your whole army then attack.
Though for a general rule I normally take on any base with more than 800 or 900 DE. Though never when the DE is in the core (since i BAM and i only have lvl 4 troops). I will only take an easy 500-600 if i am high enough in cups so i will stay in the right range. I only use BAM for DE as i have found that Barch is ineffective against bases with DE in the 2nd or 3rd layer from the core. I carry 2 rages and 1 lightning. Lightning for cc and hope they don't have a drag :). Rages for minions to get DE.
Attacking Technique
- Lure cc and heroes (If any). If not continue. If so use barbs and archers to kill heroes and lighting for cc. Always take out the Archer Queen first because she kills troops faster
- Clear the area around the DE storage with barch. Ideally you should also destroy all or most of the buildings in the first layer or walls to allow minions a easy run to the DE. Remember the area need to be cleared a long way to the sides otherwise the minions go to the sides and your raid fails very badly. This has happened to me before :(.
- When clearing the area try to focus on taking out wiz towers and nearby air defs since they decimate minion swarms. Archer towers are a bonus.
- If there are high lvl wiz towers (e.g. Lvl 6, which are full pink crystal) then skip it as well because they almost one shot minions. Lvl 5 wiz towers are also dangerous, so be careful when attacking them.
- ALWAYS!!! remember to check for air bombs!!! If you don't your raid will not work at all.
- Use a rage spell with minions if there are multiple defensive air defs in the area. i normally use a rage because I normally attack harder bases for DE.
Aim to get about 900 DE per raid if using your full army and 1 Rage spell. Also always cook the lightning spell before the rage because it is more important and you have 1 extra rage.

Actually it's 100 elix to 1 de, you can buy x amount if elixir with n amount of g or x/100 de with the same amount of gems
