The best offense is a good defense... Wait, what?

I am currently a level 86 farmer (man, I really need a signature) and I am maxing my level 8 town hall The only defensive structures I haven't maxed yet = hidden teslas and air defenses, which are currently level 5.


My question is fairly straight forward... How balanced is defense at different town hall levels? And should defenses be stronger to ensure more wins on defense?

Even though my town hall is maxed and my design is very good - I still get smashed :(

If you win an attack - you get a bonus right? So why is there no bonus at all when you win a defense?

yeah, i was once a TH8. TH8 def doesn't stand a chance against lv 6 armies. A new TH9 isn't much better as well. Hang in there till you get 2 lv3 xbows :p..

My next question is - should I upgrade my town hall? Maxing out teslas and air defense and I have 80 lvl 8 walls ... Should I finish walls and let builders sleep ?

I forget how long the time for upgrading is for th8-th9 but I would try to get those walls done as best as possible. It does get harder to do walls at each TH level. If you do upgrade you just got to remember there is so much to upgrade at TH9 that you wont focus again on walls for probably 2-3 months. More th10's will attack you because loot penalty wont hurt them as bad. Black walls are a lot more intimidating to attackers than the purple walls.

End of day it's really up to you. in my expierance i wish i would of done level 8 walls earlier than what I did.

Defence is balanced for most town halls except town hall 10 the new multi inferno is ridiculously overpowered don't even need a good base anymore just have two of those and your fine

I am in the same problem as you only got teslas, AT, and one wiz tower to upgrade in order to max. The thing is that it really doesn't matter against L6 troops. L6 giants against a TH 8 is almost a guarantee win.

i know what your saying th 8s get smashed on the daily my clan mates have 3 starred maxed th 8s with just archers.

The same happens to me. It makes me want to rush to TH 9 before I can max out all my buildings.

I would max out your air def and tesla towers before moving on. The stronger air def will scare off most and the few who try mostly get wiped. The tesla towers smoke peekas, golems and dragons so they are good. You will win more cups on def most time then on offense so def is important. Walls are not that big a deal anymore as you can jump them, fly over them or blow your way in easy. Once in champ level it will be rare that you win on def.

Hmm, sorry i have a hard time believing 220 archers can three star a max th8...

Lvl6 morts one shot them, lvl6 wiz towers two shot and big bombs one shot.

I was never three star by farming troops when I was th8.

Maxed th8 does get rolled by th9's pretty easily.
However, a maxed th9 can fend off th10's much more easily. Just make sure you utilize an anti-hog base arrangement.

anyone (>TH7) can defend successfully at 1400
take it to 1800-2000 and see how it fare's

I agree, there is a big step up in offensive power from 8 to 9 then from 9 to 10.

And I pillaged many near max th8 when I was th9. But, a maxed th8 with all defenses up, lvl8 walls and a unlurable CC filled with wizzies can beat back most all th9 farming attacks. At least to some silly bam or barch attack.


At least back when I was th8. But that was when spells cost gold. So you never had guys throwing tons of spells at you.

At cup pushes i got butchered by everyone! But again stronger armies and lots of spells!

It was already a tough row to hoe before the buff on giants. I'm maxed except for one archer tower and I'm regularly smashed by hogs and giants. Archers? I doubt they could take me. I got one starred by 250 archers but he needed his heroes and spells for that.

But then when you are TH9, you would get smashed by mass hogs and GoWiPe... even with max X-bows and defense.

It's hard for me to relate, because I was a th 8 back when it was the max, but I would recommend jumping to th 9 with a solid th 8. Due to the higher loot rate, it now makes more sense to mix quantity and quality, rather than just quality. Basically, those extra cannons, archer towers etc. At mid levels will do you better than less of the maxed variations.

there is a bonus when you win a defence - you get to keep your loot!

The jump to TH8 and Th9 defense and troop wise is a huge difference, just hang in there tight, being a TH8 is hard in these times.

Can anyone answer this? Why don't you get the loot bonus (or even a % of it) if you win a defence?
