Decoration - By definition, they are only for aesthetic purpose
In the past, attackers could not deploy on decorations, so they were useful for extending the footprint of your base and adding strategic depth. That changed several updates ago, and now they are worthless. But many use flags to signal nationality or citizenship. And, if you need to burn gold because storages are full and mines are backing up, they are useful.
I use it to show that there is no tesla near my outside townhall
They look good.
That is all.
I am pretty sure I did not need education on the definition of decorations. Perhaps smartness is overabundant anywhere you look.
Bhima, your response makes a lot of sense in context of COC.
Not many perhaps would actually spend gems and gold on placating things around just because it makes the field look pretty and offers absolutely no advantage in a cut throat competitive environment. Looks like the purpose which used to make sense has somehow been lost. Good thing I did not use any of those :D
Thanks again.
Thanks Zellnera and Fibonacci. Understood :)
Here's the wiki entry for decorations:

Basically, they could be used to prevent the deployment of clan castle troops (take note: not your usual troops) where that deco is placed. Also, it would have some psychological effect on how the attacker would deploy troops --- like he/she would like to deploy in "clean" or "open" areas first. Or you could use them to "try" hiding an "open" (deployable) area inside your camp.
To extend the discussion to obstacles in reference to troop deployment, here's the wiki entry:

I think these notes still hold true in the game.
HTH.
Decorations is to decorate your base. Duh.
