An analogy for the Gold Economy in CoC
There's 20,000,000 buckets of water (gold) sitting on the floor of a giant swimming pool (two for each player)
Everyone has two buckets. One gets filled with a tap (collectors), the other gets spent from (storages).
IN:
There are 10,000,000 taps pouring in water (mines)
People get given extra cups of water occasionally (league bonuses mainly)
It's an indoor pool, so it's never filled with rain either!
TRANSFER:
You can take gold out of someone else's bucket with a dipper (raiding)
Bizarrely, you never know how big your dipper will be until you look in someone's bucket!
You can randomly choose from only some of the buckets near your buckets.
It takes time to reuse your dipper again, depending on how you play.
LOSSES:
A full bucket (usually collectors) just overflows
You slop water around while you are looking for a full bucket to steal from (raiding costs)
There's a crack in that swimming pool and you're never getting that water back
OUT:
There are 10,000,000 players with spigots draining as much as they can to use as they see fit. (spending gold on their bases)
These spigots keep getting bigger as we all need to spend more on defenses (e.g. upgrade a L5 air defense for 2M then a L6 for 4M)
PURCHASE: (edit, thanks OJM)
So, this is a separate section to IN because this water is never seen.
People buy a bottle of water that comes in whatever size you want and drink from the bottle instead.
The water company makes all their money from selling bottled water (literally ALL of their money) so why would we expect them to give us more than a minimum amount of water?
So the ONLY thing supercell have done is change the size of the dippers and how the dipper size is decided.
Why would we expect things to have gotten any better?
Gold is transferred faster (dippers) so it's more common that an active player will get the gold they need and spend it. Gradually as this happens the gold in the system (buckets) will decrease.
The size of Spigots just keep getting bigger.
They don't seem to want to change the size of Buckets.
Cups are a tiny amount coming in (try thimbles!)
Slop is getting worse.
We need bigger Taps!
I don't see what is so hard.
I don't want enough water to irrigate a farm, wash my house, water my garden or have a spa bath.
I'd just like to have enough to drink, maybe make a few ice cubes, flush the toilet, and shower daily.
Is that a lot to ask?
I don't mind paying for bottled water occasionally, I just don't want to have a standing order with a water cooler company.
