Need some advice please........

Daily player, been slowly adding production buildings. Currently on level 35. Have fishing area and mine open. Right now I have 57000 coins. I am trying to decide if I should open the net maker or should I go ahead and purchase the ice cream maker. Or hold out for the jam machine? Argh I just don't know what to do!

Also, what is the purpose of the smelter? Right now I am just smelting all my metals and selling them in roadside store because they are clogging up my barn. Should I be stockpiling the metal bars for a future task?

And final final question, how in the heck do you find deeds?!?! I have a ton of other expansion items, but for the love of God, I cannot get a deed to save my life!

The net maker at your level only makes nets. When you have a net in the water it takes 12 to 14 hours I think to catch fish and you get either 2 or 3 fish. If you are making lures and fishing you can get more fish faster. They have just added where you can get mastery on this machine.
When you get to where you open the lobster pool it also makes lobster traps.

The ice cream machine takes a while but it sells high and good getting you more coins.

The smelter makes your ores into bars. You will not need the bars until you get to the jewelry maker. I thought I would never run out of bars WRONG. The truck should also be asking for bars and you get vouchers when you sell to the truck.

The deeds are another problem. I always had to hunt for them as well. The smiley give away/pay it forward thread is a great place to find what you need. People post what they have and want to give away and you post and claim it with the understanding that you will pay back the favor and give away what you are able to when you are able to.

Actually, they take 20 or 21 hours and catch exactly 3 fish now. I find these useful when I'm going to be away from the game for a long time. But ya, the icecream maker is a better investment.

Everyone says that nets aren't as efficient, but I'm not convinced.

Assuming no mastery effects, with worms the most fish you can catch is one every 1.5 hours, right?

But you can make a net every 4 hours and catch 3 fish. That's a fish every 1.33 hours.

Initially it takes 20 hours to get the process rolling, but once you do, the nets catch up to the lures and you only have to interact with them every 4 hours as opposed to every 1.5.

Am I missing something crucial? Or is everyone always fishing with lures made from vouchers but me?

I'm on your level now and I focused on getting the machines before opening the mine. I have the ice cream maker and jam maker and I couldn't imagine how it would be to not get all the production units available for your level. I followed the advice from ppl here who stated that it takes time to make a profit off of the mine. So I'm waiting to open the mine til I get high enough for the jewelry maker

But with the cool down times on the fishing areas, it depends. Take the sunken ship area....it has a cool down time of 4 hours. You can produce two worms and have a third one being made in that time. Not using diamonds to speed up the cool down time, if you were to fish that area every four hours, in the 20 hours it takes to catch 3 fish with the net, you could catch 5 fish with the red worm.

I think they should lower the net catching time to maybe 10 or 12 hours.

Okay, but you're stopping the comparison as soon as the net is pulled up. While that net was cooking, you could be making more nets, and placing one every 4 hours. So while it takes 24 hours for the first net to produce 3 fish, you're getting another 3 fish every 4 hours after that initial delay. I think that if you track the results further out, it doesn't take long for the nets to overtake the worms. Plus, you gain the benefit of not having the manually catch each fish every hour and a half. You just have to swap nets every 4 hours instead.

Also, I'm not sure the cool down time of the fishing area is really relevant. You can't make worms fast enough to use all of the 8 areas before one of them is available again, so for my purposes of comparison I'm just assuming there will always be an empty spot for your worms.

You're right, I did only go to the 20 hours for one net.
So your idea is, you throw down one net, make a net and throw that down in a new area. Do that every 4 hours until all areas are netted? Then you are able to harvest fish every 4 hours, but you keep putting down a net every 4 hours? Like a continuos circle of nets. Do I have that right?

You are also right that the cool down time makes it more difficult to individually fish in some areas. Even the lowest cool down time is 2 hours, you can ony produce 1 useable worm in that time, so you'd only be able to fish one area every 2 hours. The one worm you can make in 2 hours would always go to the same fishing area. I think there are three areas with a 2 hour cool down time. So you wouldn't be able to fish all three of them at the same time, if you didn't have a stock of worms already.

Use the metal bars to to blue truck orders that are asking for them. This will give you vouchers that you can buy pets with. Try doing as many as you can while you're low leveled as each order will ask for a bigger quantity as you level up which means it takes more bars for each voucher.

I think the main issue isn't about how long it takes to fish as obviously lures are more efficient but takes more time and commitment while nets work themselves. The biggest issue is that people probably don't want to hold up the net maker for 4 hrs for 3 fishes when they can be making lobster traps.

Yes. After 4 hours, a net is ready and you put it down. After 8 hours, the 2nd net is ready, and you put it down, after 12 the 3rd, 16 the 4th, 20 hours and the fifth is ready, and 24 hours after you started, your first net is harvested for 3 fish, and the 6th net is ready to take its place. From that point on, you should be able to check in every four hours and harvest a net and replace it continuously. At that point you are getting 3 fish pieces every 4 hours.

In my comparison I am assuming a player had all 8 locations available and they are either (a) fishing entirely with worms, or (b) fishing entirely with nets. Since nets don't trigger a cool down on a location, and you cannot make worms fast enough to have all 8 locations used and cooling down at once, I am simply disregarding that element to make the comparison less complicated.

In reality, you can use the net system I describe above with only 5 fishing locations and still have the maximum yield. If you were trying to get as much fish as possible you would use both kinds of tackle.

That's just it, I don't think lures are obviously more efficient. I keep seeing people saying that, but I don't think their comparisons are accurate because they are only looking at the yield of one net to one lure. If you track continued use of one over the other the nets are a better deal all around.

I didn't take the lost potential of lobster nets into account in my comparison because I didn't want to further complicate the issue. I'm strictly talking about it from the perspective of "what gives me the most fish over a period of time?"

Thank you everyone!!! I went ahead and purchased the ice cream maker. I'm sure Tom will be glad that he doesn't have to fetch ice cream anymore haha! I will add everyone through game center and hopefully be able to trade some items for some of those elusive deeds! Thanks again!

Okay, I see. I am going to try your method and see how it goes. I think I'll use the 5 areas for nets and leave 3 open for lobsters, as I only have my pool up to 3. I think maybe I'll take some time to stock up on nets and lobster traps and then give it a go. I wonder what would be the best way to do this doing both nets and traps. :confused:

Here's what I'm going to try:

Start making nets and rotating them across 5 locations as outlined above.
Meanwhile, make worms and let them pile up outside my machine.
Once I've made all the worms I can, I will switch to making lobster traps.
As each final net is collected, replace with a lobster trap until I have 4 locations with traps, rotating every 2 hours.
As the other nets are collected, they are replaced with worms.
Continue to rotate the lobster traps every 8 hours, and fish intermittently with worms in the other four locations until I catch up to the worms used.

That's probably something like a 12-14 day plan...?

One word on all of this lures vs nets
when you fish with lures made with vouchers you do get diamonds for every different fish you catch. With worms you can only get 12 diamonds as opposed to all of them you can get with vouchers

That's a distinction between worms versus colored lures, for sure. But that has nothing to do with determining if it is more efficient to get fish pieces with nets or worms.

I've come to the conclusion that the jam maker was the worst investment ever lol!!! It takes so long to make the jam that by the time my riverboat comes, I just send Tom to get it.

BTW, i recommend only buying a couple of smelters at first, as even though the production time is quite slow and you only need two slots open on each, having enough dynamite, TNT and shovels to keep the smelters buzy can be a challenge and they can sit empty for long periods if you have too many smelters. I am on level 69, have 4 smelters and still find it hard to keep up production.

Somehow I have an abundance of dynamite, TNT and shovels. Guess I was hoarding them before I opened my mine. I have a ton of metal stacked at the entrance, so I've been keeping my one Smelter running 24-7. It's the bars that I don't know what to do with! I do not have the jewelry make so I've just been using them for truck deliveries. I'm building my coins back up now to get either the jewelry maker or open the lobster net. Take an eternity it seems to get back up to in the high 5 figures with coins ugh!

and there is no cool down after using a net.. You can fish or cast another net straight away

yes I agree. I only have 2 smelters with 5 slots open between them. I could probably keep 3 busy, but manage quite happily with the 2. It can be hard finding enough TNT / shovels etc... To make enough ore to keep them open
