I ran some tests on my TH10 games this morning. The L1 and L2 spells are now completely and utterly useless - they offer absolutely zero value whatsoever. While the first level or two of most spells/troops are usually low value, this was much less. You get so few Bats that it isn’t even suitable for helping with clean-up. The L3 Spell is a mixed bag.
First and foremost, a Rage and a Freeze are required to really get anything out of the L3 Bat Spell. The Freeze is used to give the Bats time to spawn and the Rage, of course, is their steroid mix. Without the Freeze, the Bats are so slow to attack that just about any overlapping defense grid will take them down. Likewise, multi-stream Infernos will decimate even 9 Bat spells dropped under Rage.
L3 Bat Spells dropped under Rage and Freeze can still take out a couple of defenses, including an Inferno Tower, but they lose steam quickly. The value here is in a more surgical hit. The obvious down side - it’s a real estate heavy attack, so you’re talking a heavy spell commitment.
Bat Spell spamming is dead against all but the worst base layouts. The nerf was significant enough that I am leaning toward moving my Inferno Towers back to single-stream again. Multi-stream will totally wipe this strat out but even with single-stream Inferno Towers, I just can’t see the mass-Bat run doing enough damage to make a difference. Such a heavy use of spell slots...honestly, I don’t think many players will be using it at all.
Also, whereas you used to be able to drop 3 Bat Spells on a L8 AD and take it out...that is no more. Even moderate protection will take them out quickly.
Hello oblivion - the Bat Spell has joined the Skeleton Spell on the Island of Misfit Toys. Higher level/more skilled players may still use it in a tactical fashion but for the regular user, this nerf has rendered the Bat Spell catatonic.
