The same principle on Vaults, risking to lose all in order to keep majority of attacks getting none has stayed the same since the beginning of the game. In the past, people were not worried at all to lose 50-100k from 1-2 storages, but somehow losing 200k very rarely was too shocking. Hence, the strong dislike on vaults. The first few discussions I started soon after joining the forums marked me as the oddball, who actually thought, that vaults would actually be a good option. But even then, I was reluctant to give my (not overly) hard eard pennies to all kinds of sad attackers.
But now the tables have turned. Everyone and their mothers can toss a full army on a cloistered/divided base and get 1-2 containers each type, at worst taking along 200/200k. And if the DE is there, too, that's quite a payoff. After the loot update, I have been relentlessly attacked by huge armies and spells dropping off the sky. Biggest loss: 100/100k. Now that my infernos are both up, the attacks shifted from huge armies to TH snipes, but that's only 2 days now so can't say for sure yet.
Fact is, that most of the attacks on a "good" base are either TH snipes, sad attempts of attacks that waste all the resources and get very little done OR full blown steamrollings. So from 100 attacks, if 99 of them stay completely away from your honeypots and that 1 attack you lose all, that's still a lot less than giving 100k to 1/4 of attacks... Well, on my math at least. But this argument didn't matter way back when... But now it seems to hold water
For me, I never did care and still don't, what others think of my base. Is it rated 1/10 or 10/10, it's all the same as long as I am happy with the base. Trying to convince others of one's base's superiority is also a futile stunt. Gloryhogs will make fancy tube videos of mediocre base (some have good bases, too ) and the sheep will flock in, blaming their own upgrade levels for every loss, instead of the design. But hey, the worse the bases others have, moar loot for me
Most important factor of any base (design) still is: is the owner happy about the base.
(Reason, why there isn't yet a thread on TH10 vault, is that so far only few are interested in such. TH9ers and 8ers on the other hand have shown far greater interest in such ;) But that's just few taps away to start one, if there's someone to take lead.)
