[Discussion] Why are bases rated this way?
Now-a-days it seems that everyone follows the same guidelines for a base to be considered "good"
These guidelines include:
-Triangulated Mortars
-Squared Wiz Towers
-Squared Air Defense
-Proper T-Junctions
-Closed off except for funnels
-Funnels
-Spread Storages
Now granted, a lot of these guidelines are pretty solid, for instance the first 3 guidelines are pretty crucial (mortar being the least important of them). Funnels are cool to have and proper T - junctions are great if your base is closed off.
But besides those guidelines, the other ones limit the scope of base building to your black and white, same old same old 6 x 6 core or "X" transformer core (using TH9 as an example). Its like the majority of base designers are brainwashed into thinking this is the best way possible to make a base. It can produce effective bases, don't get me wrong, but with the frequency of stronger attacks due to the new update, isn't it time to open up our eyes?
Let's look at vaults for example, which clearly violate the storage separation rule. Vault bases are always trashed on, but if we do some simple math, it can be seen that they are quite viable.
Lets say that a decent to nooby attack can get 1 to 2 storages out of 4 from a separation base. A very strong attack which comes along around about twice out of every 10 real attacks (not TH snipes) can wipe all of the storages. So out of 10 real attacks (40 available storages, just looking at gold), a separation base gives away 19 of the 40 storages during that time period.
Regarding vaults, those decent to nooby attacks will not be able to get any storages possibly get lucky and snipe 1. And for arguments sake, lets say those strong attacks are able to wipe out the vaults completely. So in theory out of 10 real attacks on a vault (40 available storages) there will be about 11 of the 40 storages taken. Of course this is just theoretical, but from my experience this is how is usually plays out.
If the discussion gets to the point, I will go more in depth for some of the other misconceptions, for instance open or closed off bases.
Feel free to discuss and put you opinions on base designs and vault v. separation designs and the general rating of bases. I will update as I see fit.
Now if you'll excuse me, I will be heading over to Tactics Sub-Forum where we are working on some amazing bases as a small community :)
Have a good one.
