Your post is misplaced as I assume it is relevant to Clash of Clans (green gems), and should be posted there.
About your question, indeed the Community Manager, Darian, has also expressed the view that the current achievements are a bit outdated, and announced that more will come in the near future (as example, new ones have been added recently for Clan Games and Single Player maps, and Clan War Leagues). Also, regarding gem use, since the end of last year, with Magic Items from Clan Games, Clan War Leagues and event; there are other ways to accelerate the upgrades, as well as lesser upgrade times/costs. Consider that these Items are also offered at reduced gem costs at the Trader.
