War search times ridiculous. How about scheduled wars?

We just gave up after the war search went 24 hours. War on the wrong day simply doesn’t suit us.

we want war at a particular time, a particular day, every week. That’s how we organise for the kids to do their attacks at the right time, and others to fit in with shift work.

i would like to preselect who will be in war, and let you war search however you like, but have it start at the right time.

surely, if this is how war worked, it would be easier. Maybe wars start only four times per day, making the pool bigger.

Search times take a couple hours or less for clan with common rosters. What is your clan tag?

War search for years has taken a reliable 30-45 minutes. A few weeks ago, that changed. This weekend, the war search went for over 24 hours, which completely doesn’t work for the kids.

Leaving out top end or bottom end accounts for war search purposes is not an option. We may as well give up the game.

So you're ok with getting massive mismatches if the only other clans who select your specific day/time/# of bases wouldn't be a fair matchup? You'd rather just lose every time in order to have them start at your pre-selected date/time?

No, no one wants mismatches.

The idea is that everyone who wants to war, classic war, has to specify their start time. Hourly or even two hourly start times would be perfectly fine I imagine. This will mean that there will be a very large pool of clans all with the same deadline for being matched. This would mean that the algorithm can minimise the worst matches.

I’m guessing how the algorithm works now, but I imagine it is chaotic, with new war searching clans constantly entering, and leaving. When two clan match well, are they immediately matched, leaving the outliers waiting indefinitely? That is not an efficient algorithm, and is particularly poor on certainty, never knowing how long it will take or what sort of result is likely.

OK so what if no one that matches your clan wants the same start time?

Your way limits the available clans to just Those that choose the same start time. Where as the current way gives you a pool of all of the clans searching for a war the same time as you. In your case 24 hours. That's a way bigger pool of clans.

If you couldn't match with all of the clan searching for a war in 24 hours why do you think that you would get a match in a pool of clans searching in a 2 hour time frame

Same me, but here I am suggesting a solution. Pool all the war searches, and minimise the worst mismatches, don’t drop out the early find perfect matches first.

The way I think the algorithm works now, is that it sorts and shuffles the clans and where there are good matches, they are matched and removed from the pool. It is live-matching, and can see someone join the search and get matched immediately, and another stay in the pool forever, and it is not broken by clans cancelling their war search.

The live aspect greatly hurts the efficiency, and hurts the ability to get most clans matched in a reasonable time.

By having a pool of all searching clans for a two hour slot, I think the algorithm can do a better job of minimising bad matches. The cost will be less perfect best matches, and the inability to pull out of a a war search once the algorithm has started.

At the end of the search, all results will be released simultaneously. There would be a few unable to be matched according to some criteria, and these searches would terminated with a “failed” message.

Again how do you think you will get matched by all the clans looking for a war in a one to two hour intervals when you can't get a match from all of the clans looking for a war in a 24 hour span.

You are limiting the possibility of a match to a much smaller pool then you currently have and are expecting better results

You clearly have no idea how it works.

If it failed to find a match in 24 hours, it's because you gave the matchmaker an impossible task. There are no other clans with your lineup looking for a war. It might occasionally find you a match in any given 24 hour period; it is 12 times less likely in a 2 hour period.

That’s a bit rude. I clearly have some ideas, and I bet they are not all completely wrong.

If a match was impossible, then a statement to that effect should be returned at some point. Not left to run endlessly. An algorithm that runs endlessly without output is not a good algorithm.

However, others have reported matches made after 2-3 days, so I suspect you are not as right as you think about “impossible”. Also, we have used similar lineups for years without searchtimes exceeding 1 hour. Matchups were never terrible, for the top end, and that means for the war party as a whole. Lower down, war participants should not be expected to be matching their equal rank.

If two hours is too short, go longer, even six hour slots. I would like to war starting in Saturdays weekly, and am happy for days of war search if necessary, but absolutely do not want war on Friday or Monday.

Currently, or at least before the last few weeks, our war searches mostly took 30-45 minutes. 2 hours is more than twice that, so I considered that as having increased the number in the pool.

There are many ways to design algorithms. I was suggesting a wide time slot alrgotihm could do a better job minimising the worst matches, at the expense of slightly worse best matches. But that is a tangential point.

More important is that I might want to submit a war party for classic war some time even in Wednesday, but setting a fixed start time, Preparation time Friday for War on Saturday. Two hours is the suggested minimum precision I think that people would expect. We are used to regular wars plus or minus less than one hour, weekly.

You don't like being told you lack understanding; fine, few do. But pointing out isn't rude.

Why should there be a statement? The matchmaker's function is to try to find you a match. You won't know it's impossible until it's had a look. But, if you can't find a match in 24 hours, you obviously have an unusual lineup. You'll find matches much quicker if you have a narrow, rather than wide, range of TH levels for example.

You are offering solutions to a problem that, frankly, doesn't exist. You are also blaming the matchmaker for failing to find a match, where your lineup is the issue. So rather than guess how the matching algorithm works, I'd recommend that you take the time to find out.

This thread is not about a complaint. There is a clan wars thread in which I report a problem our clan has. That thread is https://forum.supercell.com/showthre...nd-a-war-match. You are not the only saying it is my fault, I must change my clan to suit the new matchmaking.

This thread is about the idea that when starting a war search, it would be nice to specify when that war would start. Long war searches mean that the start time is becoming random, and it would be nice to have a defined start of war.

Yes it would be nice to start at a fixed time. It just will not work though.

You still have the problem of finding a match in the first place, but you want to factor in another variable too.
