How to increase your chances of an xmas tree

'Tis the season of patiently waiting for your xmas tree to spawn! Though I really don't care for the design and look of the 2013 tree, it's still a rarity and I'd love to have it on my base. With the xmas tree on my Christmas list, I have a few questions! Hopefully you forum-goers can help me out:

1.) First and foremost, what are my odds of getting a xmas tree on my base? I've read that your percentage chance is somewhere in the range of 2% and thats a scary statistic considering how badly i want one!

2.) Will trees (or other 'objects' for that matter) spawn at the same rate of 8 hours per day no matter how large or small of a space they have to spawn in? In my case, I'm thinking about moving my non-defense buildings such as barracks and gold mines towards the edge of my base in an attempt to get a xmas tree to spawn in the null zone just outside of my base. Will xmas trees still have the same chance of spawning there then? I should add that I have about 20 trees spread out in that area already, and I would instantly chop down any logs, stumps, mushrooms, or bushes that dare pop up while I'm waiting for me tree!

3.) Any other simple tips or tricks that have worked for you guys with trees in the past or even the xmas trees from lasted year? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well they have the same chance of spawning as a regular tree and if you move your buildings back I know the big trees won't spawn but im not sure if that increases the odd at all.

Have you seen the new tree? I think you will change your mind when you see one.

I have tried half slabbing all areas except where I want the trees to grow. I caved all around the spawn area and lit up all caverns and mineshafts. I flooded a perimeter to keep unwanted obstacles spawning on the surface. What more do I need to do to get a Christmas tree!!!! Docm77 I need your help!!!!

I personally do not know anything about it, but I just put my buildings on the outside so it spawns there

I got 2 xmas trees in my base. And most of my clan doesn't have one.. That funny.... Or maybe because i'm a Leader so supercell give me 2 trees...

1. It's 2% per spawn period. Assuming spawns occur every 8 hours and the winter update is present for 30 days you have an 84% chance of getting at least 1.

2. No, just like everything else. There must be enough room for them to spawn.

3. There is no trick except for making sure you don't have 40 obstacles and making sure there is room for it to spawn.

This makes no difference unless the trees in question bring you under 40 obstacles or free up space when there was none.

I have 3 Xmas trees. I make it a point to keep the entire base clear of any vegetation. They just keep appearing!

I heard from an obviously trustworthy and reliable Goblin that saving up 1000 gifts from Santa's bomb guarentees you a Christmas tree spawn. He did charge me 25,000 gold up front and left a fake village address though...

He told it to you too? Then it must be true!! I must admit that I was a bit sceptic at first, because he also told me that eating potato chips with my left hand while playing, and attacking only villages with an even number of Archer Towers would increase my chances substantially! But now I know better, this will work!!

For some reason my village keep spawned those pine trees but it never gave me my x-mas tree.

I got 1. Cost be 25,000 gold to clear it and it gave me 75,000 gold so I got 50,000 gold. Kind of cool I guess, but not a game changer.

I see you've already gotten some good replies, but I thought I'd elaborate a bit further on this one. It seems that if an obstacle fails to spawn at the site it tries to spawn on (due to the space being occupied by a decoration or building etc) it does not randomize another spawn site, but fails to spawn altogether. This is based on observations from several forumites, me included, as I've pushed the spawn radius back all the way to the base perimeter, allowing 2x2 square obstacles to spawn on the very edge of my village map.

I've currently got 23 small (spruce) trees and an impudent fallen trunk that is yet to be removed - but the general consensus seems to be that the likelihood of obstacles spawning in the "forced" area decreases as the total area for spawning is decreased. In short, the more limited the total spawning area, the higher the chance of obstacles failing to spawn on any given site every 8th hour (even though there is plenty of space on the edge, and the 40 obstacle cap is not yet met). The topic of spawn rates was further discussed in here, but everything is purely theoretical and empirical, since there is very little information available on the topic on Clashwiki.

If you really want an X-mas tree, you should probably clear lots of space for it. If you want it to grow on the edge of your map, all you can do is push the spawn area out as much as possible with buildings and decorations and hope for the best :)

I was just thinking about this, just slightly different. This is only a theory, but I have noticed that most of the bases I have seen with two or more trees have a lot more open space on their base. But when looking and talking to clanmates and other high levels without much space, they haven't had much luck with getting a tree. What I am getting at is that if a tree tries to spawn and its spot is blocked, then another spawn point is picked but it resets back to the 2% chance to get one.

Just a theory with no evidence except observations.

The chance is always 2%. The way I believe the spawns work is that it chooses what will spawn based on the spawn chance, and then only spawns it if there is enough empty space for it.

I think Supercell should re-think the Xmas Tree theme and give everyone an Xmas tree on Xmas morning! That way no builders or villagers spend their Xmas without an Xmas Tree!

Say on the first try of a spawn, rog (random object generator) gives you the xmas tree but its spawn point is blocked, the game cancels that xmas tree and spawn location. For sure. I seriously doubt it selects an item and then tries the same item every 8 hours until there is space to place it.

I had 2, just cleared 1 for 25,000 gold and recieved 800 gems. MERRY CHRISTMAS

No trolling here my friend; the loot varries with each spawn. Another clan mate confirmed 150k gold loot after removal, while another mentioned only the above stated 25k removal and 75k loot. Guess it varries.. got lucky I guess. Good luck!

The 2nd point about spawns and spawn areas we covered earlier in this thread, and 3. is based on last years tree spawning and common sense. The cost and reward has been posted by multiple trustworthy forumers in other threads.

I've realized that the more space ur village takes up the less chances you have, my village has been taking up nearly allt eh space (th9) and I never got one last year and I'm still waiting for one this year and on my other account when I was a th7 only took up 1/3 of the base I got 4 old Xmas trees and I got the new one on the first day of the update

I want one on my main :(

Of course this is not the case, but wouldn't it be cool if clan donations raised your chances of getting an xmas tree? The more you give, the better your chance! Technically you are getting in the Christmas spirit by giving to others :)

I am so focused on getting the new x-mas tree. My base is free from all plants and shrubbery except for last years x-mas trees. Everyday I clear more useless shrubbery. I've compacted my design to allow for more room for the new x-mas tree to spawn. I click on the presents santa dropped and accumulated tombstones around my base as soon as I can.

I noticed all the top gemmers in the game dont have xmas trees while some low level non gemmers in my clan have the new tree. So I will stop all gemming until I get a tree. I noticed some people have trees are not that active so I may stop playing altogether until I get a tree. I mean other than clearing obstacles, clearing tombstones, and donating. I'm really focused on getting the new x-mas tree right now.

I didn't mean every 8 hours. I meant that if it was time to spawn something and you had less than 40 trees, shrubs etc, so u had a chance to spawn something, it would cycle through till something spawned. But I digress, this response is many hours after your response.

If the trunk grows into a normal tree, does that mean the Xmas tree failed and that there's no chance of that certain tree to develop more into an Xmas? Or can it still develop more?

hola, yes your chances are slim indeed. You can have a maximum of 40 obstacles on your base. They Respawn at a rate of 1 per. 8 hours. A medium tree carries a weight of 5% spawn chance. So if you had 100 random spawns chances are 5 would be medium trees. Now Christmas trees have a 2% chance to spawn so out of 100 spawns 2 might be Christmas trees.


thats IF the Christmas trees have a separate spawn from other ordinary medium trees, CoCwiki doesn't specify.

if they share the same spawn weight then the game would roll to see what spawns, if it chooses a medium tree it would then roll again to see if its a normal tree or Christmas tree. (Again wiki doesn't specify) if that's the case a base has closer to 2 out of 10,000 rather than 2 out of 100.

The obstacles don't grow/change/develop. Once a trunk, always a trunk. Once a normal tree, always a normal tree.

Why would you assume they have any relation to normal trees?

The spawn weights of the normal obstacles total 100%. Thus the obvious behavior is for them to choose a number between 1-100 and map the normal obstacles to that. For example a mushroom has a 10% chance so make that spawn if 1-10 is chosen. A bush has a 20% chance so make that spawn if 11-30 is chosen, etc.

The christmas trees are in addition to the normal spawns.

If I were to create a game and implement this I would do the following:

Choose a random number between 1-100. If 99 or 100 is selected, a x-mas tree spawns. If 1-98 is chosen, reroll and use the normal obstacle spawn table.

Alternatively, they could fudge it and choose a random number between 1-102 where 101 and 102 represent the x-mas tree and 1-100 is the normal spawn table.

I suppose they could make it where if a small tree spawns (20% chance) that they then choose a number between 1-10 and if a 10 is chosen it becomes an x-mas tree.

All of the above methods would be pretty close to the 2 out 100 rate. Clearly it's not 2 out of 10,000. Lots and lots of people get trees, with quite a number of people getting multiple trees (I got 4 last year). If the probability were 2 out 10,000 and the winter update lasted 30 days with 3 spawns per day, your chances of getting a tree would be less than 2%. Your chances of getting 4 trees would be 4x10^-9 which is getting up there with winning the lottery odds.

The odds seem much more in line with 2 out of a 100 which gives you an 84% chance of getting at least one, and a 10% chance of getting 4 or more.

I got one on the first day lol

No increasing chances, it's 100 % random, not 99 % random, OP, you just have to be patient.

I redesigned my base, trying to get a big tree or xmas tree to spawn in the middle. Nothing has spawned in there yet, not even a small bush. I placed all my buildings along the outer edge and left a big open space in the middle. The open spacing is surrounded by walls with nothing inside, to protect my base from raids at least.

There is a ton of open space inside but can obstacles still spawn inside with walls all around? Or should i remove one wall... maybe i've been unlucky in spawns?

It's all down to luck but I would imagine almost everyone will get one in the end. I would give you mine since I hate the look of them but I suppose I got lucky because it spawned in the 'deadzone' of my map.

It's all about luck. All you do is clear up your trees,bushes etc for a better chance to get one.

Okay, so if i have a big gap in the middle of my base with plenty of room to spawn something but that space is surrounded by walls (to protect the rest of my base from enemies) , will an obstacle spawn in there?

There needs to be an empty 2x2 area for an x-mas tree to spawn. Since walls push the spawn area back with one square, you would need to have a 6x6 empty area for the tree to spawn, and enemy troops would be able to spawn in there as well. Like this:

Thank you for the awesome example! I have something set up similar but bigger. Now i need the luck. I'm just having fun, i want a big tree or xmas tree in the middle. For myself I love to RP and it would be like having yggdrasil in my base :)

I've realized something with a few accounts, those accounts with less frequent log ins had a higher chance for an Xmas tree spawning, so if you want one, go inactive for a few days.

me too, i haven't got the xmas tree. I played too much.. LOL

I got a christmas tree....its rare....but the loot sucks....some ppl say u get 225 gems....but wen i removed mine i got 75000 gold but it cost 25000 to remove so i basically got 50000 its a waste of time to remove it...just keep it as a decoration

I literally (or however u wrote that) just had a dream, that i was playing coc and suddenky i had 2 old cristmas trees and 2 new cristmas trees.

I think the inactive spawn rumor might have merit since sc may want to use the tree to entice leavers to come back..?

I think its totally random... I was playing for maybe a couple of hours and come back from a raid and boom there was a christmas tree, which had spawned while I was on a raid. No logging off for x amount of hours, no letting the game disconnect or whatever ppl have been saying 'would work'.

Just play as you would and with any luck you'll get one. Fingers crossed!

And yes, the tree looks awful this year and I will be felling it propmtly on New Years Day!

I havnt gotten a tree this year cause I was bad. Maybe u were bad too. Maybe all of us who still dont have any are all on santa's naughty list........... You know who u are.
