^This, a hundred times THIS..
Never compete with women, if they know that you are competing!

Me and my brother had this "unspoken" competition of who can completely max their bases first.
He'd never admit it, but he's pretty much constantly competing against anyone who is around him. He had a year head start over me so no matter how much I farmed the odds were against me.
Last year, however, he decided to ego sit in the legends for half a year, because he "liked" it and it "suited" his lifestyle, going from about 300 attacks per season down to 50. Since that moment, when I started to catch up to him, instead of going down from legends (he so enjoyed being that no.1 in our clan, like I said, competing against anyone, anywhere, anytime), he was all like:
"I don't have as much time to attack as you do"
"Come up here and we can talk (I did, and I was still catching up)".
"You know, clouds..."
"It looks better for a clan to have someone in legends (we had 4 other people at the time)".
Etc...
After half of a year, he finally decided to go back to Titan3 (even at this time he was saying he doesn't have time to attack as much as I do, which was funny, because almost all seasons he ended up having more attacks than I did. Just ego... :) ), during wars, to his surprise, I was above him. He bought couple of gems just to make up the difference, but couldn't keep up with my farming style (he'll hit anything, I am picky and mostly choose whales) and upgrade priorities, so eventually I got the upper hand, and completely maxed my village 3 months before him.
Of course, anytime I mention it, he's got whole arsenal of excuses why it happened, the most common being that he "doesn't care", while me and the whole clan know, that he cares a big deal... :)
One of the facet about gaming, I like a lot, is competition and challenges.Having said that, currently I'm competing with myself in terms of climbing leagues, upgrading heroes and looking forward to unlocking Edrags as soon as possible.
It's nice that you've secretly challenged yourself to upgrading Walls faster than someone. But if you wanna make it more fun & counting then just let that person know. ;)
Actually I have these small 'competitions' as well. Trying to be just a tad faster with upgrading then a clan mate who is close in progress is one of those. But even checking out my level, which is absolutely ridiculous of course. Having the best donation ratio.
In the end it is all nonsense of course, especially when the others do not know, but as long as it adds to the general enjoyment of the game, who cares :-)
I suppose I should have clarified, yes she is working on her walls. In fact her walls are all she has to do at th10. When I met her, I was a new th8 and she was a th9. I am now a th11 and she sits at th10 still. The competitions between us has been going on for 4years. I suppose the reason why this matters to me; is cause I only had walls to finish when I went up to th11 and always found her scorn cause I didn’t wait to max my walls. Well, while she’s been working on her walls, I got all my offensive stuff done, my royals to 45/45/17, have caught up my walls and now on the lead. And still she says, she’s waiting until she finishes her walls. So she competes to be a max, I compete to be an efficient max.
Yes OP I do have little competitions against other clan members quite often. However I usually let them know I am watching their progress so that it isn't a complete secret........
Incentive, that’s maybe a better word, and definitely agreed it’s not a bad thing. Hope it didn’t come across like I was implying it was. I do make comparisons sometimes, for sure. It keeps me going at times when I thought something would be impossible and I’d think, well—these people are making it work, so I’ll probably get there, too. (“One million gold farmed in an hour? Are you kidding me?” :smirk:)
LOL. XD
