How do you manage your fishing area resources?

So I’m having some trouble keeping my fishing resources fluid without delays.

my net maker doesn’t make nets, lobster traps, or duck traps fast enough for me to keep up with my game play. I have 4 spots in my lobster maker and two for my ducks. So if I try to keep a steady pace at two duck traps and four lobster I always seem to fall behind. I don’t feel like upgrading either of these would be beneficial considering I can barely make the traps fast enough.

Just looking for some examples in how others have managed their fishing area?

I found in order to keep up I needed to run constantly so upgraded both net & lure maker. I make & set 6 lobster and or 6 ducks at a time, if I don't have I fish. Since I started doing this I seldom run out. Works pretty well mostly.

The 6th slot in net maker is very expensive, 90 diamonds.
I have 6 lobster pool,and 5 duck salon. Usualy I do this:
1= 5 lobster trap
2 = 1 lobster + 4 duck
3 = 5 duck ,or 4 duck + 1 fish net
Back to 1,
If I'm on random mood, I will make:
3 lobster trap + 2 fish net/
3 lobster trap + 2 duck

I'm still working on this problem.
I only have the 5th slot in the net maker, and that slows me down. The next one is just too expensive..

For a long time I tried really hard to split the day - doing duck traps in the morning and afternoon, and lobster traps at night and overnight. And I was constantly running out of both lobster and feathers.

I used some free Tom time to stock up on feather products and I just quit making them altogether. Once I had 10 of each feather product on-hand, for the most part, townies stopped asking for them. It's been about 6 weeks since I had to bother with feathers.

Until this week. The first thing I noticed is that I had accumulated a lot of extra lobster with no plans to use it, so I started a constant stream of duck traps. This means my net maker had a lot of down time, but I certainly wasn't going to get up in the middle of the night to add more traps lol but I did find I was able to make a couple of nets overnight without disturbing the flow of feathers.

2 things happened - - townie demands on feathers went up, and so did lobster demands. After weeks of barely seeing any feather requests, I suddenly had at least one townie in bnb and gift shop asking for hats/blankets/pillows every train, the beach cafe constantly demanding lobster soup, and the spa being the worst, wanting just the tails.

It has gotten to the point that I'd rather pick up groceries and give them all my sugar.


So, now its Friday, and I consider that experiment an overall fail. I've gone back to lobster traps already, but it does reaffirm my belief that if you don't make it, they don't ask for it. This belief of course is only based on anecdotal evidence, but... as an example, I almost never make bouquets, pumpkin pie, carrot pie, red hats, bacon and eggs, berry cakes etc... literally anything you can find in abundance in the DD, I never bother to make, and townies/boats almost never ask me for these items. Then we have these production derbies where I'm forced to make berry cakes, and suddenly half my townies want them.

It goes along with my theory that if you really need something, fill a machine with it, and before the first one is done, you'll find a few - somewhere. lol I even picked up feathers AND pillows in roadside shops this week after I started making pillows. How bizarre is that? I haven't seen pillows or feathers roadside anywhere for months, but there they were.

They claim the algorithms are random, but I don't think so. It seems pretty clear to me that items I have in abundance never get asked for, and things I'm low on are in constant demand. So those are the things I try to focus on. Ideally, I try to keep the same amount of everything on hand at all times to force a more randomized order. It's worked pretty well so far. But I am going to stop stressing over feathers (again), go back to lobsters, and use free Tom time to restock feather products. Heck, maybe even hire him for a day. 15 diamonds is totally worth 9 pillows, 9 blankets, 9 black hats, 9 purple hats, maybe 9 saws :D maybe even 9 more saws, then 9 pickaxes, 9 diamond rings! and I certainly got my moneys worth at that point.

When I was super active in my fishing area, I would take a week off from lobsters. No traps out, nothing in the sauna.

if I need lures, I put out nets and cook lures. Not keeping up with demand, but rather stocking up instead

It does slow down progress at times. I’m sure SC’s answer is resource management. I keep all 9 slots of net maker loaded and keep 6 lobster traps and 6 ducks traps out and have the salon and pool full and still have a hard time supplying the demand. I use a baby farm for fish. It would be great if the net maker were a bit faster.

I have 365 spots in my tackle box, and try to keep a 100 min each of duck traps, lobster traps and fish nets. The remaining spots contain various lures. Of my 15 fishing holes, I do 6 lobster, 6 duck and then 3 fish nets. I only do lures during the lure events. If needed I'll mix that up to provide more fish then duck/lobsters.

In my barn I like to keep a minimum of 75 each, lobster, fish and feathers. If I'm getting close to these minimums in the barn, I simply stop selling any of those items in the town or farm. I'll also stop selling items that use those as raw materials, like hats, blankets, etc.
I basically pause all use/sale of items requiring the fishing product till my minimums are sufficient.

Wow...amazing 😘😍, I only have 30 tackle box

I have all the slots open.

In the Net Maker I put 6 lobster traps/6 duck rings/6 Lobster traps/6 duck rings etc
In the Lure Maker I have brown/worm lures nearly all the time, with the odd green ones to top up after an event.
(Occasionally I have a go at finishing the Fishing Book, so make some other lures, but not often)

Most of the time I do this...

Fishing spots 1, 4, 7, 8, 10 & 12 I put Duck Rings
Fishing spots 2, 3, 5, 6, 9 & 11 I put Lobster Traps

...and now the New Fishing spots 13, 14 & 15 I fish

Occasionally I’ll fish all the spots, or just a few - prior to this Derby, so I could make loads of the FDLM Pizza, I fished the ‘duck’ spots.

It all seems to work out pretty well. The thing I love most about it, is just not thinking about it. It used to drive me up the wall trying to maximise the production of it all, but it’s not designed very well to do that, so I just do what I do, have what I have and I’m good with that.

I may adopt this solution. My standard fishing area tactic is dump what I have in whatever available spots are open. Load more of whatever and run away until I remember I have a fishing area.

Lol, besta... I have adopted your method of late XD

I also use the official 'Besta' method of fishing;)

The bottleneck is in the netmaker timing. In a 6 hour span you can get either 3 lobster traps, or 6 duck traps, or a mix. If you check in every 3 hours, over time you'd never fill more than half the duck salon (coz in 3 hours they empty out) or half the lobster pool, and you need 6 fishing spots max (actually would be impossible to fill 6 spots at once).

In other words, how you plan the fishing spots don't matter at all, it's all in the netmaker management.

The "catching up" period is when you sleep, and that's when the net maker slots are worth their 970 diamonds.

If you have a huge stockpile of duck/lobster traps, it just means your lobsters and feathers are not moving much - for now.

When needed I do a "freeze" on any product made with duck/lobster/fish for 48 hours or so. During that time I crank out the traps/nets till I've a surplus of 100+ of each. Then I just keep that level at all times. Now when I make or sell any products based on them, I balance that output with my on hand inventory. Sometimes in the town I turn them away if they want more than one item. That happens on occasion but it keeps my stock levels where I want them. I try to keep fish, feathers and duck in the barn also near that 100 count level.
