So you want to farm AND push trophies at the same time? Well that's not an easy thing to do because farming armies are cheap, trophy pushing armies are generally not.
Get really (and I mean REALLY) good at Goblin Knife, and you ought to find that you gather trophies overall. However, being a 1-star attack means you gain them slowly... and all it takes for you to drop 30 trophies is a giant bomb you weren't expecting or some balloons in the enemy CC or something.
I got to Champions using Goblin Knife at TH9, so it IS possible.
anything other than gob knife .... i have tried it once and it was a horrible experience for me....:D
Loonion is good for TH9. 24 Loon Rest Minion (50) its like 600 Dark with spells. no Royals needed. 2 Rage 2 Heal 1 haste. if you can get a Hound you are im prime position. now you can also take max Loons or Zap Drag too!
its heavier on Elixir but you can smash 50-70% of almost EVERY TH9 (even maxed) and get your army cost back on the route to the Dark tank/drills. you can drop some Minions and add Arch and Gob instead if you want your elixir tax a bit lower.
If your Royals are awake, use them to clean up the last bit of percent to get the 70% damage cap and full loot bonus.
other than Gob Shank. and (Gi)Barch or GAG (Giant Archer Gob) or Giant Healer .. but you said that was too heavy. so either drop or adopt a winning and damage approach like Loonion. (otherwise you need a heavy dark mix to hunt elixir, like LaLoon, or Valk/Hog based)

breach with the Haste spells and Rage/Heal through the core or the WTs or Tesla(s) farm.
use around 20-30 Minions in with the Loons for extra damage, and the rest to pick off and clean up stuff in the Loons wake.
the Freeze is a nice addition to this raid cause you can get that last WT, or AT, or couple Teslas, or the AQ. and\or do a Poison and Freeze on the CC. and you can make your own if you like max Poison in the CC instead. but a maxed Freeze for a TH9 is boss.

Lavaloonion, stay in crystal. Attack bases with 2k+de only.. I usually go for the 4k and 5k ones. Will have atleast 500k gold/lix in all of 'em. I think it is because I use clash forecaster's time table, which is like morning and afternoon here

During the event I think the Combination of Healer, giant, wizard and Valkyries are best. They can Destroy 90% of a th9 base always, guaranteed no loss therefore. And So you can farm much Loot from it. It's not very expensive but you'll always be on a profit IMO.
Mass miner and 3 heal. :) Fastest training army.
