I like how the bottom of the base is a hole leading to a bunch of spring traps, I saw someone with a similar base today, and I lost, so I believe your base is a good design :)

Town hall existing as a lure in the center of base. This would seperate meat shields from gobs and archers on the outer sides of the base hopefully.
Major flaw on my recent base. Tesla spots where town hall is had an open pocket right into the middle of my base. Doh!

Just push the mortar down, now they cant spawn in the middle of my base lol.
To be honest the best anti barch / BAM tactics are being able to funnel tons of those troops into an area where they will set off a giant bomb. Well centralized splash is also really important. If you keep 3 or more splashes covering each storage well, you should NOT have a tough time with Barch / BAM.

Tested my would-be anti-hog for the first time.
Got revenge-hogged by TH10 (the guy had all the time in the world to plan his attack, I've been sitting without a shield for almost 24 hours)
A few hogs (3 or 4) leaked to the left AD and damaged it (cc dragon and cannon killed them), others were killed by 2x giant bomb trap. The third bomb was upgrading.
After that he used lightning spell to kill my remaining top left AD and 3 dragons to get the TH and loot.
If he'd was able to 3-star me that would cost me 59 cups since he is in silver 1, but for a 45% win I only lost 19.
This is my base before and after 24 raged lvl2 hogs (very low-level, he is not serious hogger)

I'll adjust my setup accordingly, but I'd say that was not too shabby for a first test. All my defenses are TH7 except for the mortars
We need help :)
Any serious barch is released in multiple waves. First one will defuse the bombs. Bombs are usable, but not the ultimate solution.
Wizard tower standing next to storage is not really protecting it, archers are still able to pick it for free.
So I was thinking to incorporate something like this in my design (barch supposed to come from the top)

In theory it should gather all archers and all barbarians in a single spot, until tanks are depleted or the wall breached.
The Wiz tower is positioned to be out of reach by archers.
I've tested similar setups and they work wonders.
The problems are:
1) they are massive (the one pictured above is the smallest I got, smaller by a long margin)
2) they are vulnerable from every other side
3) they MUST be enclosed by walls to not interfere with anti-giant.
4) 1 lvl4 Wiz tower is not powerful enough against lvl6 barch, and there is no place to fit 2
5) you have to place mortars somewhere not too far away
You've put a lot of thought into this. Looking good, but there are a few things:
1) you have a spawn hole where giant bombs are.
2) wiz tower+storage set in this way proved to be not working. Archers are out of range for WT. But don't take my word for it, test it, maybe it will work for you
3) you better hide those builders huts inside if you have spare space. 49% is a win, 50% is a loss.

The most giant-heavy attack (24 lvl6 giants) was on the wrong side. Giants went for the bombs and died in an amazing explosion.
Can I watch your replay, or maybe some details how attack went?

By anything I meant like archers,etc.
The attack went like this:
Attacked from trapped side. Wizard tower in the funnel was destroying the barbs. My CC full of balloons was also activated. When the balloons were dying, they were falling on the archers, thats what killed a lot of the archers. I still think the archers would have died without the balloons because the constant mortar fire from that side was also hurting the archers and barbs.
I also won an archer giant attack. He attacked from the trapped side. The balloons came out of the CC, destroyed the giants. Either way the giants would have been sprung. The archers destroy the balloons with minimum casualties and then get destroyed by the wiz tower. He deploys archers on the right side, clears the outside buildings and the archers funnel into my barch trap on the right and get electrocuted by my wizard tower :).
Current record: 4/6 won, both losses from the wrong side (the core, and the bottom left. btw the core hole is fixed now.)

Will you still keep the air defense outside even when its done upgrading? Because there isn't much luring to make the bottom the primary target. If anyone wanted your gold storages, they'd attack from the left side and get two storages.
Personally, I think the base needs more luring from the bottom
Also, making it look more nooby is a good idea too.
A good test to check if your base is nooby enough is to go on global and ask Hows my base?
If the noobs over in global say its nooby, then its definitely nooby :cool:

Won another defense, kinda odd how it went, I easily could have gotten 50%ed but he surrendered too early
Army comp:
70 archers,14 wallbreakers 6 giants 1 PEKKA 20 barbarians 1 healer 13 goblins and A lvl 7 barb king.
Attacks from trapped side,spams wbs and giants,deploys healer too early, healer dies BY ad. Giants die a few sec after. He deploys most of his tier 1 troops and his pekka, thank god pekka goes to the side for the army camps. Pekka breaks outside buildings, and starts breaking the wall surrounding the builder hut (:)) Dies when it destroys the builder hut.
Archers try desperately to destroy the wiz tower and mortar, they just destroy the wiz tower but mortar cleans up the rest. He starts deploying more wallbreakers,barbarians,and archers on the left. The barbarians run into the giant bomb on the left, wiz tower cleans up the rest.
He deploys his barb king at the end on the top, and surrenders randomly. I guess he didnt want trophies.
5/7 won.
Almost at crystal 2 btw, will continue testing over there!

Got hogged, 100%ed. I think I have come to the conclusion that TH8s have no defense whatsoever over hogs.
I agree. I have even gone and made myself a anti-hog base to see if we have ANY hope whatsoever. Its not doing to bad either. 1 win , one loss, no hogs yet. But we will c. Also, did I just attack someone on this thread? If I didnt, then someone had bad the same idea as us:) it nearly worked as well. Pretty well made. I might even go back and copy the base, then make my own adjustments
By the way, guys, please post your battle logs, I will add your bases and logs to the second post, to give newcomers a clue what kind of bases we are talking about.

This is what I was thinking. The top AD is hopefully to lure balloonions from that side which would likely get one shot by the air mines. I think that the 3 giant bomb would be expected there but hard to avoid. The stuff at the bottom is to try and keep archers from just picking off the storages. I only put in two gold and 3 builders because atm that's all I have.
Actually, the best lure we could have had is the terribly under leveled walls, but it is gone forever.
I almost fell for a TH9 with golden walls today.
In the last moment before I deployed my first giant realization strikes: his defenses are almost maxed.
The wall makes so strong "this base is weak" impression, in almost blinds you.

I'm including a pic to give you an idea what armies I'm facing, how many resources I'm losing and what my general results are. The topmost is a 53% loss. The guy at the bottom got 0/60/200 - not much.
Doing a lot of small and not so small changes to the base. No one wants to attack me on the bottom still (trapped side).
Climbed to Crystal2 to make attacks more often. I'm stick with this design few more days, but I have ideas for the better one already :)

Only TH8 defenses I got so far are the mortars, all else TH7. I think I'm doing pretty good. I was not 3-starred EVER since starting this thread, and I'm generally gain more stars than I lose.
As for the resources, I'm losing some, but I've rarely lose all of them to single attacker because storages are spread out.

80% of all the attacks coming from the left: lab area or spell factory area. Don't know why.

P.S. got 3-starred and lost 50 cups as I was writing this message :) Very smart Giants/Spells/Heroes/BARCH from the lab area
They come in through the west side because its easy to drop a naked wall breaker on the decorations and follow with meat shields.
Move the football fields to the west side to push back the spawn area. Move the decorations to the south.
Move the walls protecting south AD to close off the gold and dlix on the south west.
An extra layer of wall will discourage the attacker from west side.
You want the AD to look exposed but not too exposed so plant a single cannon next to it. Set your king to sleep.
I incorporated most of your suggestions. I prefer my king to stay awake - he is one more reason to start the attack from the bottom, as people generally don't like the archers deployed for killing the king to go to waste.
After fixing a few mistakes I introduced to my base with recent changes, I got my setup working and winning again.
Got 81 trophies from defense today, lost 19. The only loss was just a miraculous last second save with the queen.

I'm really sorry. But I'm not sure this is working for me. It is probably due to the fact that I am basically maxed defense-wise. Of course I will still try and help, and try to suggest things to improve the project, but I will b using slightly more conventional designs for the rest of my time at TH8 simply because I can't look vulnerable. People look at my base and think "it's a trap" (notice the OP reference? Lol). So ima go down the brute force route on my designs.

I farmed about 45k DE last few days, then lost 4.4k in consecutive attacks waiting for lab and builders to free up.
So I cleared out my core and decided to add a moat with traps around my DE...
sneaky AT funnels have been around since mid TH7, though without a corridor the giants sometimes tiptoe around the spring traps.

The problem is that once I have pretty much maxed defense, i dont attract the noobs any more. And that is really what is allowing these bases to keep TH8s afloat in crystal. Just been attack with my conventional base i made this afternoon. 16 hogs, lvl4 drag, some giants, some wbs and some arcs. Got about 30%. Dont get me wrong, ive learnt a lot from designing these bases, but its not gonna work as well as a near maxed TH8. The noobs r scared of u at that point, at least in my experience.

This base is not your standards of a trap base but it works for me well. 60% by 20 lvl 5 hogs 75 lvl6 archers 13 lvl6 barbs 6 lvl5 wb 20 lvl 5 gobs lvl8 king and 2 lightning my attack log is pretty much 2-15% from sniping my TH but when they do actually try they usually are around 40-55% so I get my shield :D
Yep, Giant Bombs in the core might save you an otherwise lost DE.
By the time enemy reaches the core all the troops are deployed and most of them grouped up.
And the sneaky AT funnels are sneaky indeed.
Shouldn't WBs released in that area go for the outer intersection between AT and Elixir? If they are, maybe you should move one of the traps to that spot?
Interesting. Do you sit with trophy hunting base and with 200/200/x? (can't find you ingame)
If you are, you'll be attacked by the lvl6 farmers mostly. I'd love too see your battle log once you fill it with some attacks.
If you don't, you won't be attacked for days. At least that is how my experience went.
And when I was sitting in C3 with conventional farming base, it was all TH snipe.
As I was approaching Crystal 1 this afternoon, I was greeted with two 3-star losses in a row. The first one was very strange, Giants just refused to use the runway and went through the wall. King defused all the spring traps. By the time Giants reached the 3xBomb, I got no defenses left.
I changed things a little so I hopefully won't have any of this in the future.
Second one was heavy Giant/Hog at the wrong spot. Giants went to the 3xBomb and died, but lvl5 hogs wiped the base anyway.
WB released directly north of the funnel will target the junction between AT and CC, a WB stepped on the spring trap earlier today. A little to the left they target the elixir pocket from outside, a little to the right and they target the north pocket. The base is designed with narrow corridors so the WB won't go directly to the center, they will get distracted by all the side compartments first. Its takes about 4 sets of WB to reach the core from any direction.
I dropped shields a couple of times just to test this.
A raged dragon got to my DE but got incinerated in like 2 seconds. I moved the teslas back into the pockets where I temporarily parked builders huts cause they need to zap mass archers circling the base. also, to prevent giants from banging on the core walls. I also bumped out the WT compartments to make a true wall cushion by the core, some lone archers got a free shot at the DE from inside the WT pocket. I want them to shoot down the wall and walk on in for a xmas surprise.

Yes I do. Just got a couple more 1 stars, but no one has breached my TH yet. and ive had 1 farming army attack, but the rest have been either healer giant, and ive had a hog wizard giant attack too. And cant u find me? all my info is in my sig. Apart from im lvl 84 now
Parked my base at 2300 cups in the morning.
0 wins, 5 losses today, 2 of them 100%.
I haven't had much success at 2300 and 2400.
Now I'm sitting at 2200 and gaining trophies from defense again.

I might scrap this base and try to make a farming variant from scratch, but I have no time for it now.
On the second thought, I don't think we should build farming design based on these principles.
Trophy base capitalizes on looking weaker than it really is. It attracts attackers and wrecks them.
For a farming base with TH outside, looking tough is the best trait. Actual base performance is irrelevant, for a tough-looking base you'll be getting shields 90% of times anyway.
First off great thread. I know there have been other threads about base building but relevant base designing obviously changes all the time. Secondly my head hurts after reading all the twist and turns of each base design. I am a TH8 and about to go on a trophy push. My best is Crystal2 at the moment but maybe with great defense I can push higher. Again great post as this is what I think the Forums should be used for.

This is what I've been working with. Tweaking it a bit from my original vault design. Trying now to defend from hogs since giants are already on a merry-go-round and barely touch gold. I'll try to add logs when they happen. Any thoughts?
I found hog defense at TH8 to be hit-or-miss. We have only 3 bombs, so we can make a proper trap on 1 side only, and hope for the best. Attack on any other side is a loss.
Seems like farming hoggers prefer to go for the clear path to the group of splash on the gold side. But I had hog attacks from all sides, unfortunately.

Anyone have a base like this that is able to be used as a TH 7, when I max my walls and upgrade my TH I will definitely attempt to use this base.
That was my th7 hybrid base... to start with my traps were well spread. After analysing the attack on my base ... I moved most of my traps near the town hall.
I was with this base in crystal 3 ... for sometime. This worked well.

First, let me explain my point of view on perfectly symmetrical bases.
Common thought is that symmetrical bases are good, because no side of your base is weaker than the other.
While this is true, I can put it the other way around: all sides of your base are equally weak. Attacker will face 1/4 of your traps and 1/4 of your defenses, because you spread them equally.
While I agree mostly with what you have said, I think that this statement is wrong. What if your base was more of a triangle, making enemy troops to be forced against 2/3 of your defences no matter what side you are on. Just my personal thoughts.
