I chuckled at the few down votes i got , i never gave one but did give upvote👍still meaningless imo
It's amazing to me that anyone pays attention to it. Guess I'm weird but I don't check to see how many rep points someone has or how many posts they've made. I just read the post. I think the only negative rep I've given was a reply resulting from a discussion which reminded me to avoid message boards after consuming a few adult beverages.
Way to keep in line with today's politics, a few nutjobs do wrong, everyone loses their privileges. 👍
I think you would now see from the various responses over the past hours that it wasn’t such a good idea, as it read as an unsubstantiated broad vague accusation of improper behaviour with many possible and identifiable targets, all of whom might quite rightly take that amiss as close to being impugned or called into question just on the basis of their rep points tally.
No, I would not, suffice to say it was a green rep manipulation circle who were caught and disciplined, showing that the mods have a track record of being on top of such problems. Discussing it in detail would be too close to discussing moderator actions, and pointlessly revisiting a past that the forum has moved on from. If you want to read about it there’s an old thread you can look for in Forum Talk where the rep reset of the guilty parties was discussed afterwards.
I think everyone agrees it can be manipulated, and in fact that’s why the moderators made a specific forum rule against doing so. You might have missed my point. I was drawing a distinction between the idea of manipulated rep (falsely high through some deliberate repeated systematic abuse, collaboration or collusion) and the kind of “odd” or “shallow” rep most active forum people get occasionally (the sort that leaves you thinking “well thanks, glad you liked that, but tbh it seemed pretty ordinary to me”).
