Also what you guys think about champions league is wrong. My leader is in champions leage and hasn't gemmed for 3 or more updates. He also is on for less time than me. You don't need gems to get up to 3000 but at 3400 you need to gem.

Master with TH6 and no gems. Going for champion with TH7 now.

I got to Masters without 'gemming'. I used Golem, Giants, Wizards & Archers with the occasional rage spell. People tend to focus on loot even when hunting trophies. If you shift your aim towards getting the Town Hall, winning becomes easier.
It is impossible to get to masters without using gems. Remember the tutorial? 250 gems for your 2nd builder, which everyone has gotten. It is possible without "gemming" though.
