These diamonds getting used inadvertently are a real challenge to my gentle nature, grrr.
Here is my suggestion:
Give us a storage secure bank in which we can place our diamonds. We can close the bank, so they cannot be used. When we want to use some, we take the step of overtly opening the bank. After we use what we want, we can close the bank again, so the remaining diamonds will be secure.
players who don't care can just leave their diamond bank open. Me,I will leave mine closed most of the time.
This way we wouldn't need confirmations that may "upset the flow of the game."

ps: I will not buy more diamonds than I can use immediately. A bank would help a lot.
Given that we now have confirmation for the mystery nets then its obvious they know how to add the functionality.
My cynical opinion is that they make too much money from accidental diamond spend so they dont want to change it.
I would be more than willing to buy diamonds if I knew there was no way of accidentally losing them.
