Oh boy Cathy! you shouldn't have gotten me started, but this is a great thread, and helpful to lots of newer players out there. A boat tip for newbies. It might seem kind of obvious, but it took me awhile to figure this out. This works well before work or bed! If you've got a difficult boat coming and your supplies are low on the items required to fill it, load up your machines, get your farm in order and just close the game, even if it's just minutes before the boat is due to arrive. When the game is shut down the boat timer doesn't start until you open it up again, but your machines continue to chug along and produce those items in your queue. Once you re-open your game and your boat arrives, you will have the full time in which to fill the order. This is especially helpful for those dreaded sugar and dairy boats, if you decide to fill them and not just send them down the river empty. Most neighbours refuse to help you out on these, so you're on your own.

Yes, but you have to close the app completely. HD continues to run in the background unless you close it completely.

In iOS 6, close Hay Day, tap the home button twice to bring up a listing on the bottom of your screen of all apps running in the background, press and hold any app until they all show a red circle with a white minus (-) icon, press the red circle on the Hay Day app (this will stop HD from running in the background by closing it completely), press the home button again to exit the background listing, and reopen Hay Day.

I don't have iOS 7 so I'm repeating this from a friend who kindly contributed the information. In iOS 7, tap twice on the home button to bring up the list of apps running in the background to the bottom of the screen, tap and swipe UP the app you want to close (in this case, Hay Day), exit the background listing, and reopen Hay Day.

When you reopen HD, the paper will be refreshed and you don't have to wait the 3 minutes that you would if you kept the app open.

This trick also works to keep your boat from coming in while you are sleeping or otherwise away from your game. Completely close the app, and your boat won't come in until you log in. Everything else, machines and such, will continue to run so production is not interrupted.

Thanks, Cricks. That is good to know. I have never done the paper thing. Hope it is at least half as wonderful as the red box trick.

Another way to refresh the newspaper quickly is by having multiple devices for the same farm. For example, I have my farm on both my phone and iPad. When I log into one device, the other logs out.

So I can have both in front of me, and go from one to the other. With each reload I get a fresh set of ads and can quickly scan for something I need, then reload on the other device, and repeat as needed.

With the longer producing items like strawberries and tomatoes best time to plant is before going to bed so they're ready to harvest when waking up.

There's a lot of great tips and tricks going around on the forum! I pity my FB friends who obviously has no clue that they can send away difficult boats. LOL!

One of my favorite tips that no one had mentioned yet is how to not waste precious barn space to hold mining equipment without picking up ore. Make sure your barn is completely full and wait until you have chickens, cows, etc. ready to harvest. After throwing in something in the mine, harvest an egg to fill up the barn again. Continue to mine, harvest, mine, harvest etc. That way you throw in all the equipment without having to pick up ore.

If you are willing to pay the 3 diamonds to open a mystery box that contains something you want, here's how to peek inside without loosing your diamonds. Tap on the pay 3 diamonds bar. The box opens so you can see what it is. If you want it, take it and you will have paid your diamonds. If you don't want it, double click the home button. Close out the hay day app according to your operating system. Then reopen. You still have your diamonds. Be careful and focused when you do this. I have lost diamonds on unwanted items about three times out of the 2 hundred or so times I've run this trick. Keep your hands away from the screen after you have tapped the pay button. Click decisively on the home button. Good trick if you are looking for that last elusive bolt for your barn.

you can also do this by switching to airplane mode. you'll have about 20 seconds before the game tells you it's lost connection. that way you wont have lost any diamonds on accident if it doesn't work out.

cheddar's method works too, if you have multiple devices. but the way i meant is after you're done searching through your newspaper and have bought all the goodies, lock your device for around 10 seconds and then unlock it again. the game will refresh it's self and you'll have a new set of ads.

Definitely the best for me was to learn to cast off boats and bin bad truck orders. Since doing that, I make more money, am a little less stressed and level up a lot slower so the coins are in the bank ready for when new machines become available.

Now, if only my barn were bigger, my stress levels would be much lower!
