What now classes as a thread fit for 'General'?

For some reason the mods now feel the need to move threats to a more suitable location, and half of my page is consumed by threads that have been moved. I wonder why some threads are moved but others are not, yet they may be of a similar nature? If this continues to happen, what will be left of general? the forum will simply split up to the different areas

They should feel the need to do so because that's what the subforums are there for. When people don't place their threads correctly, it is the mods' job to move them. I agree that their shouldn't be inconsistencies when doing this, but they are still understaffed. Hopefully things will get better once they add more mods.

One problem is that some people don't know whether their thread belongs in general or not since there is no description for the types of threads allowed in it. I think it would be a good idea to sticky the rules for posting in general. Like HJ says, his page is half full of 'moved' posts which makes for a very messy sub-forum indeed.

It's not necessary. Just look at the sub forums and their descriptions. If your topic doesn't seem to fit any of them, then it belongs in General.
It would be a whole lot messier if we left them where they are.

Unfortunately not everyone reads the sub-forum descriptions, especially older forumers who may have been inactive and aren't aware of new sub-forums or changes to sub-forums. I see that a sticky containing rules for general would be difficult to put together since it's more of a case of what doesn't belong in it, which the sub-forum descriptions already answer, but it's only one idea of many. There will be a constant flow of people posting in the wrong sub-forum as the situation currently stands. Perhaps removing the 'moved' icon all together would help?

I had a thread moved to off-topic, where the description says "anything NOT coc." And my thread was totally about coc, and only coc, so I didn't really understand.

The redirect isn't permanent. It's just there temporarily to let people know where their thread has been moved to, then it dissapears. Without the redirects, most people would repost the thread, or be upset thinking their thread had been removed.

People read stickies even less than they read forum descriptions.

First of all it's a team effort to move all the threads to the right place. More then half the team has been moving threads today. If you have a problem with a mod moving your thread you take it up with a mod via PM and they will get back to you with an answer.

In fact this thread doesn't belong in general either however we do grasp the irony here.

By you, I'm assuming you mean "all the mods". Sometimes there is a run of threads in the wrong section, other times we go for ages without having to move anything. What is the point in having all these great sub forums if everyone ignores them? A few new ones have been added lately to try to tidy up general as it was becoming a hopeless jumble of all sorts.
Sometimes these threads are posted by newcomers, but sometimes they are experienced forum members who blatantly ignore the rules, because they think their thread is more important than everyone else's.

The descriptions are pretty clear, and the forum is organised to make it easier for everyone to find the thread they need. Don't blame the mods, we are trying to make this a better forum for everyone, and recent threads on this exact topic have been full of requests for a more organised forum from you, the members.
