Hannibal, just wanted to say thanks for this writeup. Good logic and well written with good explainations. I know you mentioned leaving base design to another thread but I would love to see some examples of what you think is a good base.
If you look at the base designs thread you'll find designs that I liked, but I probably won't post a specific list of my, "approved base designs." There are a few reasons for this.
One is that my current design is always easy to see for anyone who cares to look me up in game provided you don't mind seeing what may be a base mid-redesign or trying something crazy that may not work. And my earlier stuff (TH7 as an example) was honestly terrible. And I'm not interested in investing time generating designs for a stage of the game I no longer play.
Another is that there's a tendency once there is a, "right way" to do things in games like this, for everyone to copy that. While that may be fine for an extensively theorycrafted game like WoW, I think it would be a mistake for a game as young as CoC.
I actually look at most threads where people post their designs because I want to see what new ideas are out there. (If I didn't post in your thread it was probably because repeatedly spamming, "segment your core, fewer spikes but make them longer, blah blah" gets boring for everyone.) I'm more comfortable posting what I think are good principles and then seeing what creative ideas people come up with, even if they disagree with me.
Yeah, I have read through most of the base design thread because like you I think it is really interesting to see what people come up with (plus you can figure out how to break them when before they come up in an attack!) It just gets old looking through 100+ pages of TH5's and people with egg bases claiming its the best base in the world. It would be nice to see what some of the better minds in the game have come up with rather digging through a mountain of information to find just a nugget of good ideas.
As for being a copy cat its tough not to be at least a little bit but especially when it takes so long to build a base a higher levels that might not workout as planned. So I try to get a good idea before hand and then put my own twist on it.
Anyways thanks again for guide and one small thing to think about including would be to work in some sort of funneling to force troops onto spring traps within the bulkheads. Its something I do with my TH7 and plan to do again once my TH8 is complete in 6 days.

Well, the reason I post that it's under construction is because I just tried to upload the new version of both base design and farming which was around 30k characters. And I ran smack into the 20k limit. Since I didn't think I'd ever be adding to this I didn't claim the second and third posts, so I just gutted the new version down to the bare bones and forced it into 20k characters.
There may be sentence fragments that don't make sense or other inconsistencies. In the long run I'm expecting most of the farming portion to come in the form of the youtube videos, so maybe I'll be able to stay within the 20k limit after all and keep the actual text portion brief.
