Why are some players so greedy and like vultures where the shop is concerened?? Makes me mad 😣
When I started playing HD in 2014, I was annoyed when I put rare items (screws and planks) for sale unadvertised for my hoodmates and the items were bought instead by one player outside of my neighborhood. Eventually, my mindset evolved about these enthusiastic shoppers when I realized that I was one of them!
Since bolts and wood panels take the longest for me to collect, I will buy them as quickly as possible with my snail-like reflexes without installing third-party apps to assist me. Then I realized that fellow players who have trouble collecting screws and planks are buying as much of them as they can from my shop. They weren't being "greedy" by buying all my screws and planks because they needed them just as I needed the bolts and wood panels. Quid pro quo.
Moreover, I accepted the following: When I sell something in my shop, I relinquish ownership immediately and don't have any control on who will buy them. It may be the intended buyer or one of my followers who has the good timing to wander by at the exact moment while I was unloading the rare items. This acceptance has made the game less stressful and more fun for me.
If SC implemented a 1sec delay before you can buy the next item in a shop, it would stop bot stealing and give everyone a chance to grab a decent purchase, especially if there are a lot of goodies available in the shop. It will prob never happen so in the meantime it basically jump in quick before everyone else.
Depends what you consider "greed".
What do you mean by greedy? If I open up a shop and all the items are things I need, then I will buy them... isn't that why they have been put up for sale?
Same. I try to leave some things for other players (especially if it's a friend's or neighbour's shop), but if I actually need it, I will buy. Unless it's a premium item for one coin, THEN I will assume trade or otherwise not meant for me.
"Don't buy more than x items" in names will also be respected if I notice.
So I do try to pay attention a little bit, but I am not going to stick to anyone's strict expectations, unless I actually KNOW said strict expectations. I'm just not going to assume everyone has them.
Sorry not sorry.
If people are "greedy" and "like vultures" you must be selling the good stuff. :D
If it’s in DD I consider it all fair game.
If it’s in our hood, we frown upon one person clearing the whole shop. Sales there are put up for the benefit of the whole hood, part of the general encouragement of unselfish play.
It's just a game, plus they are items I need.
If this makes you mad, maybe you shouldnt be playing :p
I never realized this was a pet peeve to so many players. I figure if you've put it in your RSS you must want to sell it, if I'm willing to buy it at the price marked we both win.
What I do is announce SALE in my chat to alert NH so they get first dibs. I always mark-up premium items regardless of who may be buying. The only exception to this is when a neighbor requests to buy an item. If I advertise I usually mark-up most items.
I figure if I don't want people buying my stuff I have 2 options. 1.) Get rid of all friends and followers. Of course I depend on these people to help with boats and watering and I enjoy helping them, too. 2.) Don't sell anything in my RSS.
Just my opinion...
I'm of the "take some, leave some", persuasion.
I buy a maximum of 2 items, and sometimes a risky 3 (lol) but rarely more than that. I hope for the same courtesy back. Yes, it's in my RSS and for sale however, I'm not advertising. It's for hoodies n friends...
I don't have a massive barn, so can only sell a limited amount at any given time... The last thing i then want is for someone to clean me out just because they 'can'.
I don't change my banner to reflect my prefs. I simply remove. If I can buy from you and show restraint but you can't when at mine, because you didn't notice, we clearly have different approaches to the game and need to part company:)
To each their own and you are completely right that if you have different play styles, you choosing to just not be friends is a good option. But I do kinda wonder, isnt this mindset exhausting? I fill my shop and when its empty I collect the money. Really simple. I usually dont pay attention to the names. It doenst matter if I helped 1 person or 10 with my stuffs. Why does it bother you if people take more than 3 crates?
Risky 3! That made me laugh  XD
I'm also of the take some leave some group - especially when multiples of the same item (especially if they're "premium" items) are posted, and even if I'm out or low on that item.
The only time I'll roll my eyes is if someone, especially a 100+ level player, regularly comes through - bonus points for before any hoodies get a chance to shop! - and buys everything. I don't often post premium items, but when I do & this happens, it does irk me a bit. If they're regularly coming through, they're regularly playing and in my view shouldn't have a need for 20 each hot dogs, carrot cakes, vanilla ice creams, tacos and whatever else each time I fill my 16-slot shop with non-premium stuff. That's when we part company.
Other than that pretty specific example, I don't mind getting bought out. :)
My other half has your approach and can't understand it either, no matter how much I've tried to explain:)...Not sure I'll be successful here either but I'll give it a go.
I find it irritating, but it's something I can deal with (removal etc) but at heart, for me, and not a dig at anyone that's doing it differently, it's about manners and consideration.
If I didn't care I'd just advertise... where the fastest wins...but if I'm putting up decent stuff, then yeah, I'm grateful when buyers are circumspect.
I'm only level 83 but already I can sell things that's not often in the DD. I also have moments where I'll sell dairy etc. We could probably ALL use dairy at some point or other but does that one person REALLY need all of it?
I see raiders as selfish because I'm not selling to make coin as much as I'm selling to give back to both my neighbours and friends, from whom I've likely picked up a couple of goodies too. My rss is me saying ty back. I rarely flag boats (I mostly fill my own) so watering and buying/selling is my main function for and with, friends.
So yeah, I prefer to help more than just one person at any given time.
Had this guy once that I picked up from helping out in the DD (he followed me home and added me) but I didn't mind...in those days, I allowed followers...Anyways...This dude musta been on the game 24/7 because EACH time I refilled my shop. He bought me out in seconds flat!
Blocked him. He still made his way back from the last helpers tab. I had to stop selling to shake him. Until I fell off his tab. That experience cured me and I no longer help thru DD.
So yeah, for me it's not about collecting the coin, it's about giving something back. I can't do that if one person thinks it's ok to keep cleaning me out just cos they got lucky.
I rarely need boat help so the most I need is the occasional watering.
So it's not even that I do things to receive help. I just like to say thanks for the goods...And that's it really :) doubt I've made a dent in your thinking but hopefully you can see where I'm coming from.
That's the thing, isn't it? It's kinda rude. And deep down, some of us care about that.
But like you, I carry on...
Glad I made you laugh btw...if only I could communicate how some rsss' tease me with their fabulosity and show you how I sit there staring in longing and drooling greed😳
Thanks for this really good explanation of exactly how I feel about that, udderly!:)
I don‘t like to be followed and nowadays when I advertise boring stuff in the DD I realized a new kind of shopper: The sitter. They buy everything I sell (I‘m fine with that - I only advertise when there‘s nothing interesting in my shop anymore. And when I advertise, I don‘t care who buys what or how much) and sit in my RSS for hours. So they buy stuff immediately when I put new items in it which I leave unadvertised for friends and neighbors. I guess, they close the game when they are in my shop and when they come back, they are still there.
What annoys me are the people who wont fill my boat crates but will buy everything thats in the RSS. SC should implement a system that would lock 3 RSS slots to the boat crate slots. So once a person donated to the boat that slot would only unlock for them.
I don’t put out and advertise premium stuff to get boat help. I don’t believe people should feel compelled to fill my boats because I put out premium things.
if someone wants to help, I advertise default fruit and veggies, so that I get either those who want to help or those who have help tasks.
no obligation XD
those who do help me get a personal visit. I buy a token thing in their shop or help them in return.
Think I'll also add that if I'm on a help task, I hit your farm RUNNING ,first stop boat, can I do? Yes/no,,,,hunt round farm, water any I find,,,, then LASTLY, after lve helped or not, I visit your RSS. So you see what you are selling/rewarding me with has nothing to do with wether I help you or not, just saying.
I had a strange experience once when I was shopping in the DD. I found an ad for LEMs, and the RSS had several crates of LEMs at maximum price. I bought them all, and then I followed the farm and put in a friend request. A few minutes later I noticed that my friend request had been denied, which was fine. But what was really strange was that the person blocked me as a follower. I couldn’t understand that. Why would they put an ad on their max-price LEMs and then block the person who bought them? They had plenty of other followers, so it’s not as if they just didn’t want to be followed. I was (and still am) mystified.
So I’m curious about what others consider to be good DD etiquette. I realize that some people are bothered when the same person buys all their unadvertised crates. But are any of you bothered by having the same person buy all your crates when you’ve advertised in the DD?
No, not bothered at all
I posted earlier and just have to post again because this topic fascinates me. I'm truly amazed how many people it bothers.
I am guilty of buying out an RSS. I honestly had no idea it was so offensive to people. I am a higher level player (over 100). It doesn't bother me in the slightest if someone takes everything in my shop. I am extremely generous to my hoodies, those in my friend book and those I come across in the paper. I help if I can and BUY (not take) what I need in return. My machines are running 95% of the time. I fill most of my own boat and town and truck orders. I fill request for hoodies, friends, followers, and others I find along the way. I work my town and farm hard and go through a ton of supplies doing so. So, yes I buy when I can... it thought that is what the RSS's were for. Because of this post and some of the recruitment ads I've seen, I'm feeling that perhaps I need to rethink this particular facet of the game. But in my RSS if you come by to buy, be my guest and take all you need, that's what it there for! 😁
One possibility is that if the person had meant the LEMs for another person and accidentally hit the advertise button.
Its also possible that they didnt think someone should buy all the crates in which case it's not your problem. It's theirs.
And I kind of like it when one person clears my shop out when I have advertised. I delete all followers so if someone has found my shop it's through the DD.
Thanks for your response. It makes sense to me that they might have accidentally hit the advertise button.
I’m always happy when my advertised items sell right away—and I don’t care how many people buy them. But I’ve gotten the impression that some people like to spread the goodies around, especially with LEMs and BEMs. I’ve often seen one item advertised, and when I go to the RSS, that item has been bought, but another item appears while I’m watching. And if I wait a few seconds, sometimes another item will appear. So my guess is that the seller is deliberately spacing them out to allow more people to have a chance at them. But obviously there are other possible explanations too.
The only game play I can control is my own. Why do you think you should be able to control the game play of others?
That's not greed. It's always been like that.
greed is when 3 years ago my boats were filled up immediately upon advertising one item but NOW i need to advertise different rare item 12 TIMES to get someone to put their ♥♥♥♥ in my boat... Sometimes i give up and go to bed and wait 9 hours for it to be filled....UNHEARD OF!
and it's not even hard stuff...i open crates that are insanely easy compared to stuff i opened in the past.
95% of farms that do fill out my crates once it happens are always either muslim or russian so this tells me everything... I already noticed how much HD dropped in the north american app store so to me it is clear people are moving on and Supercell is focusing on the Asian market more...
it's kinda sad to think about it because eventually the game will end and when north america, being the biggest market looses it's interest, it's a warning sign that things need to change...
Seen it often, and done it a few times - 9 times out of 10 I don't make it in time to buy an advertised EM, it was my little way of maybe spreading a little joy :D
On the other subject, same here, I much prefer my shop selling out quickly if I've placed an ad...for the simple reason that if I need to transfer items to myself or hoodies, it can be done without any waiting. I find it a little amusing that I get impatient waiting those few minutes after buying the advertised items(s) so my shop doesn't appear in any paper refreshes :facepalm:XD
From the range of opinions here, one thing to take away from this thread is that just like every other aspect of the game, preferences & choices apply to the RSS too. No one has to change how they shop, just like no one has to do 10x320, or even derby at all, nor harvest all trees at once as opposed to harvesting only what they need, nor thank players for help in their farm name, nor chat a ton, nor save all their watering for hoodie help tasks only, and so on and so on. There isn't one perfect way to play the game, which is FABULOUS. Everyone can play how they like and, for the most part, choose who to include in their game experience (one reason why Last Helpers staying until they fell off the list was a source of strife for many players; short of never helping in the DD, there was zero control; the current 72 hours was a compromise in the absence of a way for a player to remove themselves from that tab).
Along with that comes the freedom & choice to play with someone whose choice(s) differ(s) from your(s), or not. :)
I have no shame. I am a greedy DD shopper.
You don't really have time to decide if you want to buy something. I honestly don't even look. If I see something advertised that I like, after I click the advertisement I just start clicking all over that persons RSS hoping that I clicked the item that was advertised. Anything I bought that I didn't need, I recycle back into the DD frenzy.
Multitouch works great too. I can supermarket sweep an entire RSS row at one shot.
OP didn't specify - I see more of the "vulture"-style with advertised goods than non-advertised with my game friends. But, I think it is because people don't have time to think. Just about every item other than a few flies off shelves.
I actually see in-game farm friends that will have certain BEMs, SEMs, and LEMs sit for hours while other items were picked up.
I liken it to inviting people to visit, putting out a plate full of yummy goodies for them and someone taking the lot!
What would you and your other guests be thinking? I know I would be making a mental note to scrub them off my invite list for future occasions :)
I agree that items in the rss are there for the taking but it is nice when visitors are thoughtful of others.
It is only rarely I am visiting an rss in my friends list and discover that they have put an ad on the items, most of the time they are sitting waiting to be shared, so I am very conscious I only take what is fair and sometimes I am a risky 3 as well ‘udderly’ as it might be the last item I need to complete something ;)
I have a friend who comes by and cleans out my shop fairly often. At first it was annoying (I even came here for advice). I'd like other people to get a crack at my goodies, but then I figured.. what if they need it?
I'm sure they're not buying just for the sake of buying. I max out all my prices (sans wheat), so they're not making any money off of me.
Most likely it is not my friend who is greedy, but the game (townies? boat) is, so they need to stock up. I continue to sell, they continue to buy. But I have also noticed as they rise in levels, they buy a lot less often.
I always put BEM, SEM, LEM and town materials when I need my plants to be watered, as a one member hood, don't have anybody to do it asap, but I leave them for my in-game friends, anyone that wants them, they can gake it all; that way I "help" them in case they have a helping task, and also they get something else that they can take from my shop... some of them have noticed this and rush to my farm when they see that I need help XD.. what is not so good, is that others take everything from my shop and don't water ANY of my plants ... I have actually blocked some of those friends due to that...
I would like to defend my action, as I'm guilty of buying and not clicking trees sometimes.
The reason being, is that I'm often already at my quota for helps that day, and I leave trees for lower levels who are not able to fill as many boat crates as I do.
That being said, if I buy something from your shop, I will fill a boat crate regardless. If I don't have the item to fill it, I feel really bad. In some cases, I won't buy from you until AFTER I look at your boat crate. I've missed lots of items that way, but I felt like it was the right thing to do. I'd hate to take your LEMs to find you need 8 brown sugar, and I only have 2.
I understand your point. But I am at level 170. I often need large amounts of things. Therefore, if I see a farm that is selling large amounts that I need, I will buy everything I can. It is unfortunate that this bothers some sellers, but as your level progresses, you will see how unimportant it is..as to who buys what. If you are selling to your hood, it helps to put a high priced undesirable item for sale...then sell your good items in more hidden boxes which hoodies scroll to..tell them your item is in the last box. Good luck! HAPPY FARMING:D
Problem easily solved by not putting items for sale in RSS and unfollowing other players farms and remove all friend request. Basically boring game.
If it's in a shop, I will buy it without looking at the price. If I don't get it by that reflex (and I'm often much too slow) - someone else will, even if it's a premium item for one coin (I won't have looked at the price)
As for getting boat boxes filled, I advertise an item that is in plentiful supply in the shops - something that will be there for minutes - currently a rustic bouquet at max price.
I like that idea. Not sure how it could be done in reality though. But then again I am not a programmer.
I sometimes (not always lol) get a bit embaressed, if I have bought some premium stuff from a farm that needs help, and then I can't help. Unfortunally it is impossible to check out, if you can help before buying. Those goodies will be long gone by then.
In general I am "affraid" I am one of the greedy players. If I stumble upon something good or something I need, then I buy it. For me it is part of the fun in this game. It is ridiculous how happy I get, when I manage to snatch up something rare.
I know this is an old comment. The previous poster was talking about multitouch to buy a bunch of crates at once.
You can of course tap one crate at a time. Can also tap 2,3 or 4 crates at a time and buy them all.
Im usually a 2 finger bunny hopper tapper when I’m buying strawberries or tomatoes where someone has filled their shop. But when I’m buying wheat from my main farm to make wheat bundles I go all 4 finger tapper.
I'm a greedy B. If it's for sale in your shop I will try to buy it before anyone else does 1/10th of a second later.
If it's for a team mate, don't advertise, sell 1 crate at a time so if a stranger gets in, you stop selling.
