Same here, and it's silly the amount of people who are asking for new products on their boat on the same day the new facilities became available. Mine are still in building stage and I'm certainly not spending diamonds to hurry them up. There must be a lot of people who still don't know you can send boats away empty,
Agreed! I was very surprised how many people had new products flagged...
A couple of my neighbors have a boat today asking for new items. I noticed the boats are asking for extreme amounts of the new item. Wow ... One boat had a double order of, I assume soy sauce - not high enough for new machines yet - asking for eight crates to be filled. Each crate asked for three of each item. I would have cast that one off. I cast off dairy and sugar boats. So, now it looks like I will be casting off some ridiculous boat orders with the new items.
I saw a boat with eight crates of strawberry jam. I couldn't understand why they didn't send it away. Even if they have Tom it's going to take him more than one trip to get enough.
To many players, even higher levels don't know about the ability to cast off empty boats, I'm afraid. I wished CS did something about that; a 'did you know that........' on the loading screen for instance; it's so painfull to watch a neighbors boat, asking for 4 sushi's, 3 flagged, and the sushi bar still under a big tent.....
And extreme amounts of the new items for boat orders? We have double sugar, dairy, jam and all other items boats. Is 3 soya per crate soyasauce that extreme than? Will it take more than a couple of hours to make one? (As sweaters for instance, have had many doubles of them; maybe in a couple of days the DD is full of soyasauce :) as well. Very curious about that sort of things).
Yesterday, there was a thread floating around about how frustrating it was when people could not fill neighbor's boats due to unavailable products. Since the forum is so active (yea! I like all the extra discussions), I thought maybe I'd bring my previous comments forward. It was the last one on that particular thread, and is now buried on like page 3. I mainly bring it up again because I mention my inexperience with the cast off option, and also a way I've (hopefully) helped a few farmers who are now extremely appreciative about the advice I mentioned.
Yes, I do agree that SC should have the scarecrow mention casting off when he's giving the boat dock tutorial. My guess, that's not an oversight but is completely by design.... :(..
I apologize to some that may have already read the below; my hope is that we can share the wisdom and make it a nicer game for all...
Before I became aware of the forum, I had no idea there was a "cast off" option. I'm almost embarrassed to say what level I was before I sat down and said, hmmmm, I wonder if there's away to get rid of these darn things? Took about two minutes and a google search to find my answer...that certainly was a DOH! forehead smackin' realization! I honestly believe that most of these unattainable boat fills are left at the dock and flagged, because the farmers just aren't aware of that cast off option. Really is a shame; I know I was on the verge of quitting the game until I discovered that.
Oh, just thought I'd pass this on too...fairly recently, I've done some trading. After I purchase my trade item, I make a quick look around to see if they need any help. I noticed numerous with the dreaded sugar/dairy boats flagged (during the boating event no less), So I PM'ed them just to share a little insight. Probably four out of five had no idea they could send their boat away, and were extremely grateful I mentioned it! I believe if the PM (or KIK) is tactfully worded, a lot of good can come from the sharing of information. We're mostly creatures of habit so just because someone checks a trading forum, they not to scope out other topics.
So the long and the short of this? Perhaps some people are not aware that they do not have to be stuck with an unwanted boat order. When the situation present itself, friendly sharing of information between farmers can go a long way into making someone else's gaming experience, more enjoyable.
P.S. This message is definitely not meant to be critical to anyone. I'm infamous for flipping situations around in my head to try and understand how another person may feel, or what their motivations may have been. I'm simply trying to show the possible other side of this coin...which may result with a simple "DOH!!! I didn't know I could do that. Thanks for telling me!!" Happy Farming!!!
For the longest time I did not know I could cast off boats, either. Same goes for trashing truck orders. On top of that, I somehow thought I *had* to fill all orders or else there would be some kind of penalty. It was only when I found sites dedicated to HD that I learned about those things :D
Now alot of my friends employ Tom. While the mashines are still being built, they use him to stock up on those new products and boats flagged for any of those items have a good chance to get filled within half an hour or so.
