Why ask for likes?

I am just curious as to why people ask you to like them?
Is there a contest I am unaware of or a reward I don't know about for getting likes?

I figure people will like my farm, if they like it. Lol
They will like me because I helped them or sell lots of good things or I am often playing .. Etc
So I never tell people to like me because I never saw the point.

I always like my neighbors and followers and then when on ads if they have a cute farm, sell stuff cheap or sell good items.

So someone please tell me is there a point to like beggars hehe or is it just a popularity contest?

Oh my gosh I have wondered the same thing!! I have a neighbor who put, "Like or a puppy will die". Thought I would pass out. :( Needless to say, I did NOT like his farm and skip it when I am scrolling through. :p

There is a collective of farmers competing amongst themselves for best farm design.

The number of likes is one of a few determining factors.

I didn't know this.. However, from my observations, really nice and well designed farms never begs for likes. For me, likes are nothing more than bragging rights but since I'm not into decorating, it's not really something I prioritize. I just like it to be efficients and organized lol. I can't deny that I do get a bit happy when I see I received a few new likes every now and then :)

Same! I had no idea it was some sort of competition! I too am not really into decoration but I've had the odd like and it does make me feel good!

It's an ego thing. IMO, the like feature is a useless feature

If you are competing well you shouldn't have to ASK for likes ... People should like your farm out if being truly impressed. ;)
competitors for this silly stat should say you can't put it in your name requesting likes.
When I see people ask for likes I pass on by. Lol
I saw one farm I found on the ads that said like me and I will like you back, um how? Lol
I personally would prefer to see my likes and know they actually liked me, they didn't just do it cause I asked. ;) For me it's more fulfilling for a needless stat. Ha

I've done a "Hit the smiley if you like my farm." I did it as a test though, lol. I wanted to see if people actually paid attention to it and calculated the mean for a two week period. I know, I know, I'm kinda goofy, but statistics is super interesting and I tend to use it wherever I can, lol. *proceeds to walking back in nerd closet*
