I like to water plants for my neighbors, but if they have a whole bunch flagged, I will wait just a bit to make sure they aren’t meant for a task. If they’re still jumping for water, then I’ll click. I also will take a quick look at the neighborhood house. Some neighbors don’t belong to hoods so then I just hurry and water the plants. If they do belong, I check to see if any are in derby and if so, then I wait a bit before watering.
I like to help everyone whenever I can. For the friends/followers that I communicate with (either by PM or thru the RSS), most of them have said to go ahead and help unless their RSS says "plz don't water", "No H2O" or as Momscar stated "Help task in progress". I realize that not everyone looks at these RSS messages (I always do, since this is a primary means of communication for me), but I will usually wait a bit on the farms that don't advertise to see if the helps are for their hood or baby farms.

I make sure I have no adverts (and none in in the last 10 minutes) in the RSS.

The stuff in chat is to let other neighbours know not to jump in.
On Monday, I water every plant I can find (no risk of interrupting a help task) XD
During derby, I wait 10 seconds then I water some. If there are huge amounts of revives, I leave them alone - unless I‘m on a help task myself (then I wait and water up to 10 plants).
When I flag plants for help, it‘s usually for a hoodies help task. I tell them exactly where to look. If someone from my ingame friends is faster though, I‘m not mad or something.

I love watering the plants & trees and doing it on a Monday, when there’s no angst about ‘is it for a task’, is great!
The other thing I’ve been wondering about is whether to water plants on friends farms with ‘Thank you helpers xyz’ on their RSS because it just occurred to me that they might be flagging the trees so the friends see their ‘thank you’. Gahhh it’s a bit of a minefield.

For that reason I encourage my hood to water just a couple and leave for others to get tickets. Even if watering 15 plants on one farm got you a second ticket, or even maxed out your 5 per day, 15 people taking one each generates 15 tickets for your hood mates.
of course sometimes people are concerned more about the aesthetics of their farm, or simply need a whole load of one bush/tree regenerating quickly, so want rapid watering - we ask that they specify that in chat.

That way, it gives another player time if that was the intention. But, also gives the farm owner the waters they might have been looking for without regard to who did them.
