Why don't we have inactive threads automatically closed?

I have noticed in the forums that it's generally annoying to have a thread that was posted 2 years ago to be bumped, and we also strongly discourage bumping threads. However, if that's the case, why aren't threads that haven't been posted in a while automatically closed?

Because there is no option to do so in native vBulletin.

There may be plugins to do it, but SC are very reluctant to ad plugins.

It's probably because if a certain topic has a one and only thread made three months ago,but someone has to discuss about it now,so the person can refer to the one and only thread.

It is absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with that - and we would not want people to post in that thread in that circumstance.

I wasn't speaking about "probably" above, I was stating fact. It is because you cannot do it with standard vBulletin.

Do you know why SC are so adverse to plug-ins? It seems there could be a lot more functionality if they embraced them.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe it is a combination of the testing effort to ensure they are actually going to do what they say they will without breaking anything else, plus concern about performance issues, and maintenance of the options/data involved.

Hmm, that’s a shame. Don’t get me wrong, the forum works well in its present state but however nice ice cream is, it’s better with flakes, hundreds and thousands and monkey’s blood.

Maybe if they had a few more people to test and maintain the forum they could improve things.

What do you mean test to see if they do what they say they do? Just look at the reviews...

I agree, but I don't see it happening :(

I don't see why they can't go into maintenance mode for an hour, add plugins, test to see if the forums are broken (they most likely won't be) and then out of maintenance you go. If something goes wrong, there are plenty of ways to recover and uninstall the plugin.

Anybody who installed something like that based on reviews alone would deservedly be sacked by any sane organisation.

And I didn't just say "to see if they do what they say they do".

I said "to do what they say they will without breaking anything else". Which is important. The latter part is by far more important than the former.
