What are some unspoken rules that you expect/go by?
Thanks!! Yes! Just in general! Like maybe you shouldn’t buy everything in a friends roadstop?
If in a neighborhood, always thank when you are helped.
Hello, so here is a link that will help you with new player things: https://forum.supercell.com/forumdis...New-to-Hay-Day
The top 3 threads in the yellow area (stickies) are a wealth of information. Some may seem like old threads but the informations is still relevant.
the way people think of their RSS varies, but there is a definite portion of the player base that do not appreciate it when you buy everything from their RSS, as you suggest. i make sure to never do that, and leave some stuff for others.
some have the expectation that the last crate is for transfers / arranged sales, so i'm careful about that too, especially if other items are in the shop. this one is not universal, but i've read it several times, and do the same myself.
if i ever see something for 1 coin, i expect it's for a transfer / arranged sale, and do not buy it. same as the above point, not universal, but i'm careful about that one too.
if i can 'tell' a game friend is on because they just stocked their shop and i bought some stuff, i try to put some things i've recently seen them buy from my shop up as a thank you sorta gesture.
if i'm sharing a lot of revives with a hood mate for a task, i will often change my name to 'shady - revives for task' to let game friends know. otherwise an eager game friend often rushes to help, thwarting my efforts to help a hoodie with a task lol.
similarly, look to see if someone changed their name in this manner as a notice re: their revives or something in their shop.
i personally wish people wouldn't buy from RSS in the most random spots or from the last spot, particularly when all the same items are on offer. it leads to them buying my advertised item. now i tend to advertise 3rd from the last crate to try to control for this but some people will buy just that crate.
when someone revives something, always do the extra tap to send the thank you note. believe it or not some people don't do that. i read boats send the notes automatically.
say please and thank you when asking for and receiving help in hood chat, that's just good manners.
when asking for help with boat crates, i always advertise a slow-selling item like red hats, tofu dogs, rustic boque or eggs at lower levels - that way i get max visibility and people from paper can help. that relieves the stress on hood mates having to fill all the crates i flagged. people do and will look to help boat crates for their achievement, the coins or xp so it's a win-win-win for all.
try to send townies to your platform for hood mates to pick up whenever it doesn't interfere with your own game play (like a task). in this regard, i tend to send all my 2 and 3 stop visitors to the platform, which turns them to 1 stop pick ups for my hoodies, and use my train to pick up theirs instead. that way, we all have more, easier, 1 stop visitors to serve.
along the same lines as above, if i know my town is full of fully served visitors, i try not to visit town if i know train is coming. i'd rather get a task, then go race to release my fully served visitors before the train leaves, so i get the extra 14 townies dropped off. then, i release them for my hoodies to pick up (and go pick up theirs and start serving for next task).
when in a hood, do not opt in to derby if you can't follow their rules / expectations. this depends on the hood, but most people don't appreciate carrying people who don't finish their tasks and can lead to much strife.
when in a hood, let people know if you're going to be away for a while. and opt out of derby! otherwise, they may think you're inactive and kick you out, when in fact you're on vacation or dealing with real life stuff.
try to give back when people help you via requests in chat or the neighborhood trading feature. when we have new people join i watch their donate vs. request rates. when people request a bunch but don't donate to others, it can leave a bad impression.
when joining a new hood i'd recommend some restraint at first. don't join and start just asking for a bunch of stuff, especially BEM, SEM, LEM, or rare items. that's often a red flag.
that's what i can think of right now. hope that helps how *i* see some of these items. nothing is set in stone, just my opinion. and i guess with all those things considered, find a hood where you're a good fit for how you see things, and your game play style.
Wow, this was so helpful! Thanks!!
Thank you!
you're welcome. i thought of 2 more.
during derby, i try to save revives for hood mates with help tasks. so long as it doesn't affect your need for product, i think it is a good practice. i have lots of trees and only harvest when needed, so the only thing i need revived are 3 bee bushes at a time and save the rest. to me it just makes more sense to save them to help someone with a task than just doing it as they become available to revive - unless you really need the product.
when putting up revives, make sure they can be found! some people even move them by their mailbox area (default view when visiting a new farm), but you don't even have to go that far. but some people have bushes or trees that just plain cannot be seen - think of a row of bee bushes, with trees right before them - they will be hidden under the trees. it really aggravates me when i have to search for hidden revives (typically found through the paper), and eventually i will just give up.
When a hoodie has trees to revive, I always check if someone else in the hood has a help task.
If you take a help task in the derby- say so in chat.
Hopefully two things happen.
1. Neighbours will find stuff to revive
2. Other neighbours won't jump in and take the revives
Say when help task done and thank helpers.
Also. If a neighbour is one who saves helps and has whole row of revives, don't jump in (especilly if you dont have a help task) ... they're probably helping someone else.
