I don't get why there would be a barrack in the funneled compartments instead of mines or pumps to attract goblins AND giants.

Your choice between mines and pumps or barracks. But realize if pumps are inside then gobs will destroy outside first then go in for inside collectors then for storages. With barracks then the gobs do a ring around the rosey around the base. I have collectors inside though just havent updated pic...

I'm not saying one way or the other is better. What I'm saying is that there is a valid reason ppl don't put resources behind traps because gobs run right over them and they do nothing. It's a personal preference and you just made a stupid comment and brought nothing to the discussion. If you would like to debate the merits of resources vs the barracks go for it but don't just jump in and flame the guy as a noob without anything to back it up.
