If you were to represent the current trophy system on a graph, it would be a logarithmic function. Follow the trend of the graph and you will see that growth eventually slows down and reaches a limit. I'm going to assume that the trophy system is designed like this to allow even the most newest clashers to eventually be at the same point with the clashers who’ve been playing longer.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for those who are aspiring to continue to endlessly rise in cups. Thus, the cheap shield was made. It allowed for top players to continually climb, to push past the limit; it created the competitive edge. So, I understand why the new update has aggravated many top players.
It's expected for the trophy count in the leaderboards to slowly drop down return to less insane figure. However, I think it’s time for SC to step back and reassess the current trophy system, think about what they can do to make the game playable and cater for all players. Whether it be for the people who love to collect resources, or the people who love high level gameplay (those who love to hunt). A system that allows for competition and fair play that doesn't entice people into 'cheeting'.
