This change will in fact mean that QW will be hit harder by infernos than now, because they will almost all be set on single.

They did indeed introduce new defensive levels and had balance changes that were more on the defensive side.
It is normal for this to happen, it usually does, and if you feel that your village has been too weak even before the offensive update, you can always try and changing your layout a little bit and see if it will help you defending better. :)
