That sick feeling of the ones that got away.. Will someone please teach me how trade?

Hello!

I am a frequent/daily player since I started about a month-ish ago and first want to thank everyone for all the great information shared here! In have gleaned so much by reading these forums!

I have seen comments about doing trades and I was wondering if I have what it takes/others would want.

Right now I am bursting at the seams in need of planks and land deeds. Those are the two items (with nails a close third) which seem to elude me most!

I just had the thrill of seeing the motherload of 10 planks for sale which would have been such a positive game changer only to have the agony to hit it and have my barn too full. (I have yet to see that many land deeds for sale..) AAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!!! :mad: By the time I hastily cleared what I could do to try to make room, of course they were gone. I am just sick about it and reminding myself it's just a game but good grief.. anyone btdt?

I have glanced at some threads about trading, but am not clear on it or how to get started.

I don't post much, so I apologize if this question isn't appropriate. I am still trying to figure out what I am doing but I am thoroughly addicted! :)

That has happened to me, too. It is disappointing! Now I check to be sure I have space in my barn before I go shopping. Usually I want to have 20 spots open so I can buy large lots if I find something special.

I have never done a trade, so can't advise you on that.

Welcome, Snowrae! I'm sending you a friend request. Have been in your shoes--full barn--and missed too many great deals to even count. Very frustrating and you'd think I'd learn to empty room in my barn before going shopping, but I still forget at times. There are wonderful, helpful folks in this forum who will go out of their way to help. Completed my first trade last week. I was a nervous wreck. Somewhere there's a thread that explains trading. If I can find it, I'll post a link. In the meantime, I have some extra deeds. If you're interested in trying to complete a trade, please PM me. Good luck!

please read the first post in the thread as it gives guidelines on how to conduct ourselves on that thread. Most threads of a trading/giveaway nature will have guidelines in the first post. So I guess I'm saying, always read the first post. :)

there are many wonderful friendly and helpful folks willing to help out the lower levels, all over the forum, but especially on the smiley thread. I gave away some items there, mentioned I was expanding my land and was adopted by a kindly angel who helped me unlock all my land and fishing areas. Hope you will be so lucky!

I love having lower level neighbours and help as much as I can with boats etc. sent you a GC request. :)

Hi SnowRae, I play weekly , daily , hourly actually every minute,( well it sure feels like it). I've sent you a GC request:cool:
I've usually got land deed on my RSS & will add a few more if I know your shopping

I was a wreck the first few time I traded. Thank goodness the people I was trading with were understanding. I didn't want to be known as the one that didn't trade fair. LOL I do know that there are two ways to trade. 1- through the game center and 2- through an app on the Iphone. I am sending you a friend request along with my daughter. Happy trading.:)

Trading is really quite easy, though it may sound a bit daunting before you do it the first time. I would strongly suggest having the KIK app on your device(s). I have it on both my phone and my iPad (where I play HD) and it is great to be able to txt via KIK with the person with whom you are trading while on the game and going back and forth to each other's RSS. :)

As VorAtreides said, check out the trading threads and the Smiley Thread (reading the first posts in each to learn the rules/guidelines of each thread...link to the Smiley Thread in my signature if you haven't already checked it out)...I'm sure you will get a ton of help from them. :)

Thank you! I'm sorry you have had it happen also. I try to have at least that many as well, but I apparently got a little trigger happy and wasn't paying close enough attention to the quantities of the other things I was buying. Lesson learned! :rolleyes:

I can now say someone walked me thru my first trade and it was successful -- phew! Way too much fun! Also someone forwarded a very informative post to me on the jist of things. I wonder if that is what you are referencing. I'll PM you about some deeds... Thank you! :)

I hear ya, I have the same apprehension of doing it wrong!! I had no idea there was an app for trading! Do you by chance know what it's called/have a link?

What is this and where can I get it?
I too, like Snow Rae have NO clue how to trade! So I end up selling things I wish I could just offer to someone in trade!

Glad things are working out for you, Snowrae, and I think I too will have to download KIK. I'm told it makes it so much easier than pm'ing. This old dog loves good new tricks! :)

Hi Apeke,

When I started seeing KIK mentioned in the forum, I had no idea what it was either. Basically it's just like texting, which obviously makes it very convenient when you're trading. Having that "real time" ability is a definite benefit. When I first started looking for the App, I couldn't find the darn thing. Found everything to enhance and be more creative with it, but not the actual app. Anyway, to make things a little easier, here's a link (hopefully) directly to KIK in the App Store.

Yes it is free but it is listed with the iPhone apps, so you won't see it when you search if you are on your ipad. Having two devices is always good for trading and communicating. Keep in mind though, when you go back and forth between kik or even the forum and hay day, you will get knocked out of heyday and have to wait for it to load when you go back, so less communicating is still better when trading unless you have two devices.

Thanks for the additional info Tiggerr- I always learn something new while browsing thru this forum. Also, thanks for justifying why dummy me, couldn't originally find the app while searching on my iPad. Definitely a, DUH moment! :o
