Functional and 'natural' farms

Hello,

a couple of days ago I came across a level 50+ farm that had no decorations and a lot of the native trees. Sadly, I forgot to take a screenshot. Oh and the owner obviously decided against expanding their land as at such a higher level they would certainly have gotten enough materials to expand even a couple spots (fishing areas were fully expanded though). The farm didn't look cramped or anything, all was nicely arranged but with next to none decoratons (there may have been some lupines out).

I loved it. Does anyone here have a farm like that? We had threads like this for the Halloween displays, now the fall displays, but who has natural, functional farms? Or who has stumbled upon such farms and taken screenshots? Post pics, please :)

I have a few decorations, mostly won with the WOF or gotten with gift cards. I like it when the farm is functional.

I am all for functional farms! I cut very few of the original trees, so the fall foliage on my farm looks wonderful right now. My machines are clustered together in one little area (very convenient when you play on an iPhone). I did do the land expansion, much later than it was available, to make additional space for fruit trees and to get the achievement associated with land expansion. The gnomes and topiaries that I won are mostly in storage, but there are a few dropped behind the house and barn to prevent the treasure chests from popping up in inconvenient places. I have a like minded neighbor who was for a long time calling his farm the "anti-decoration" farm.

Oo that's a good idea. If I get anything ugly with gift cards I'm going to do that.

The farms I like best have pretty minimal decorative items - they just make the most of the trees and bushes in fruit.

I, too, have a functional farm with few decorations and none of the gaudy stuff, but I cleared my land as soon as I could because I like the decorative look of fruit trees in flower and fruit, and my trees and shrubs are in various stages at all times. I found the trees that were already there were always in the way of what I wanted to do and, being the control freak I am, I wanted to place my things MY way. :cool:

My machines are all close together too so I can have the business side of the farm whereas the other side is for relaxing, enjoying the lake and ponds, and smelling all those flowers in bloom. :D

I use my trees and bushes for decorating too. I have a picket fence around my backyard. At one end I have a bench with a small pond. I have a dog and cat house there. The rest of the backyard has different trees as decor.

I have a white stone fence around the perimeter of my farm. On the outside of the fence I have placed various bushes and I have done the same along the inside of the fence.

I have an opening in the front of my fence where I placed my Kiosk. I have surrounded it on two sides with Apple trees. On both sides of it I placed Lupines and Gazanias. I did place a small stone path from the road to the Kiosk.

I have all my animals on one side of the farm and their pens are surrounded by berry bushes.

My machines are on one side of my farm also. Berry bushes run up the middle of my machines. I have placed a flower next to most of my machines for color.

My barn and silo are on the opposite side of the farm nestled next to trees.

The smelters and jewelry maker are on each side of the mine with bushes and trees next to them.

Oops ... almost forgot about my horse. Between my backyard and animal pens I did build a stone fence with an opening on one side where I placed the horse stall. It has a pond and a couple of trees there.

I still have plenty of green yard because I don't want my farm to be crowded.

I have seen some beautiful farms with various decorations, but for me simple is the best.

Sounds beautiful, sonnyshine! I, too, separate my machines and animal pens with fruit producers to maximize space so that I can have some green space. It's the same in real life - I need a little "visual elbow room" in my gardens, though I wish I could grow the same fruits in my Texas heat. :)

I understood far to late that it is beautiful to leave the original trees and ponds. Besides that I love the variety, it is nice to visit foreign farms via DD.

I use fruit trees and bushes as decoration too and hardly anything else and I too have a work zone and a relaxing space. I don't hate decor, but I prefer a wood stack over a gnome etc. :D
