I have been playing for a couple of weeks now not realizing that it would be necessary to have friends, followers or interact with other members in order to succeed. New IPAD equals games.
i have been reading the forums and am impressed with how helpful everyone is to each other. Very nice of you!
I am wondering if you can play on your own at all? Otherwise I will have to figure out the following-friend thing. I do find the game addicting though. - Joey-

To succeed you need friends. It's not hard!! Most forum users use GameCenter (you can also use Facebook). Find Game Center on your I-device, it's a separate app that has an icon with colored balloons. Just register then go to the friend's tab, hit the + on the top left and add me. Then you have 1 friend!! You can find more on the "add-me" thread. You can also follow up to 5 farms, find one that interests you and hit the ribbon on the top of the screen. Followed farms will have a blue frame around them.
(You really need to be connected to GameCenter to protect your game as well!!)

Up to about level 50ish I did this. I wasn't on Facebook, didn't know how Game Centre worked (still don't TBH) and didn't know about this forum. I gradually picked up followers later on by selling nice stuff in my shop, but have pretty much filled all my boats etc with no help. I still don't really interact outside the game much as I just haven't found the time to learn how it works. It is frustrating at times, but it's definitely doable.
you can certainly play on your own! but it will most certainly take you much longer to achieve anything in the game. :)
I personally played on my own for quite a few levels - only had my sister and brother in law as GC friends.
If you want to follow people, you just need to find someone in the Daily Dirt who sells things you like, and click out of the newspaper, then click on the little ribbon at the top right of their farm name, and viola - you are following their farm. You will also gain followers by selling stuff that people are looking for, and they will in turn "follow" you. You can follow up to 5 farms at a time. To "unfollow" just visit the farm and unclick the ribbon again.
To add neighbours, you have to send out invites or someone has to invite you from GC using your farm name. My farm name is in my signature down there \/ ... and if you want to send me an invite go ahead.
The beauty of having neighbours is you don't have to rely always on the DD (daily dirt) to find stuff you need. You can simply tap on the people icon to the bottom right of your screen and your neighbor AND follower lists will pop up (follower list only shows farms that are following YOU, neighbour list shows your neighbours as well as the farms that you are following).

Sorry to hijack this thread, but GC completely baffles me. So, someone has to invite me to be their friend to follow me? Once that happens how do I visit their farm from GC?

GC friends work like FB friends once everything is connected. Friend someone in GC and their farm will be added to your friends tab in game automatically.Quote:
