I finally saved up enough diamonds to hire Tom odor a day and I thought I'd be having him fetch BEM and LEM all day. I was disappointed that he only will get food items or field items. I suppose he would be good to help fill truck orders...that's what I'm having him do...but having to wait 2 hours between times is hard! I wanna use that little sucker every five minutes!

I think Tom is a big rip-off and very seldom use him. You can break even with Tom if you send him for shovels and never miss a cycle (actually, if you are lucky you may end up +1 or +2 diamonds after this exercise, and about 100 metal bars ahead, if you can manage to store all of that stuff in your barn).
Tom would be much more useful if he were hired for a specific number of trips, rather than a certain number of hours. This would get rid of the silliness of interrupting your sleep to make full use of him and eliminate the sore feelings related to lost Tom trips that happen every time they go on maintenance break. I don't know why TPTB don't fix this, it can't be that hard to implement.

use Tom to fetch the biggest ticket items you can get ahead on: diamond rings and the necklaces (earns lots of coins, XP and tickets), jelly beans and lobster soup (earns lots of XP and coins) and shovels (gets you lots of extra ore and the possibility of diamonds
IF YOU NOTICE, Tom will always bring you the best deals. You can sometimes get 9 diamond rings for less than 1000 coins.
ALWAYS ensure you have enough room in your barn so that you are able to take the highest number of items he brings you. never settle for the lowest.... total waste of his value.
SUggestion: DO NOT use Tom to fetch any crops, sugar, cream or butter or anything that takes shorter than 2 hours to make. If you must use him for raw material, I suggest syrup and the cheeses, and jam
If you stock up on syrup, you can then use your sugar machine to get ahead on sugars
Similarly, if you use him to fetch cheese, you can then stock up on the cream and butter.
If for jam, get the blackberry as it's the longest to make, and then use the machine to get ahead on apple, raspberry and cherry.
it's all relative in the end... But mostly use him for finished product and shovels. It's the most productive use of your time and diamonds.
You don't receive Xp when Tom fetches products like lobster soup. You only get xp when you make the item yourself. If you want the xp from lobster soup have him fetch lobsters. I personally have him bring jams, jewelry, chocolate bars the occassional pie for a boat, and mostly shovels.Quote:

What I mean is basically use tom to fetch big ticket items that you can then use to fill store and boat orders for XPage and Coinage.
I use him for diamond rings and jelly beans mostly. A jelly bean order on the board recently netted me 4000+ XP and 2000+ coins. Rings give you tickets of course PLUS XP and coins
Other than those two, shovels are my number 3 choice, because they yield diamonds in the mine.
4th choice is blackberry jam, syrup, feta cheese and reg cheese - in that order - so that I can catch up on all the other products from those machines.
I usually get Tom for the 5 day stretch. During that time I can earn an additional 200,000 coins, 200,000 XP, at least 5 or 6 diamonds - or more - and I can get more than 50 creams, butters, white and brown sugars, and several dozen jams stocked up. It usually sustains me for a couple weeks if I keep up with the creams and sugars and only do syrup and cheeses at night when I'm asleep.
Also one thing I've noticed: When I use Tom, teasure chests seem to appear more, and the DD seems to yield more productive goodies.
And at the end of the 5 days, I can usually have enough diamonds to hire Tom again at the discounted price he advertises (I think it's 54 diamonds for 5 days).
