If you're really serious about leveling up, donate giants all the time. Your clanmates will hate you but you'll get a ton of xp for practically no elixir.

It's a bit of everything... Donating, Upgrading, Achievements, Killing Townhalls, Removing Objects lol.. when you get close to a milestone you count every bit of XP.
